THE CHRISTIAN’S PURPOSE IS TO LIVE FOR CHRIST
Romans 6:5
Galatians 5:24
When God saves an individual, He does not intend for him to be idle on the earth. Why, then, does God save people? He saves them for a purpose—to live for Christ.
I. The Christian is owned by Christ.
A. We bear the brand marks of the Master; Gal. 6:17
B. We are always zealous to do good works; Titus 2:14.
C. We rejoice in the friendship of the Lord Jesus; John 15:15, 16.
II. The Christian is crucified with Christ.
A. We glory in the Cross; Gal. 6:14.
B. We regard our lives hid with Christ in God; Col. 3:3.
C. We consider our earthly members put to death; Col. 3:5, 9, 10.
III. The Christian is consecrated to Christ.
A. We count all things loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ; Phil. 3:8.
B. We purpose that Christ shall be magnified in our lives; Phil. 1:21.
C. We live henceforth unto Him who died for us; 2 Cor. 5:15; Col. 3:17, 23.
IV. The Christian walks with Christ.
A. We walk no longer in the vanity of our minds; Eph. 4:17.
B. We walk in Him, established in the faith; Col. 2:6, 7; 1 John 2:6.
C. We walk constantly in the way that is pleasing to God; Col. 1:10.
V. The Christian serves Christ.
A. We witness for our Lord; Acts 1:8.
B. We fish for men; Luke 5:10; Acts 18:6.
C. We serve humbly; 1 Cor. 1:27–29.
VI. The Christian has hope in Christ.
A. We love the appearing of Christ; 2 Tim. 4:8.
B. We look for the crown of life; James 1:12; Rev. 2:10.
C. We look upon His appearing as the blessed hope; Titus 2:13.
VII. The Christian will be rewarded by Christ.
A. We rejoice in the promise of rewards; Matt. 16:27; Rev. 22:12; Heb. 10:13; Rev. 14:13.
B. We look with confidence to the rewards; Heb. 10:35.
C. We shall reign with the Lord Jesus Christ; 2 Tim. 2:12; Rev. 5:10; 22:5; Isa. 9:7.
