Intro

The last 4 weeks now we have focusses heavily on not being ashamed of the Gospel and what Jesus said about it.
but we havent really talked about what is the Gospel in a long while.

Good news

In the old days they would have someone run from one town to another who would bring the Good new to others. saying thing like “mary had the baby, and both of them are doing well”
so the words comes from this Good new delivered

word of Anglo-Saxon origin, and meaning “God’s spell”, i.e., word of God, or rather, according to others, “good spell”, i.e., good news. It is the rendering of the Greek evangelion, i.e., “good message.” It denotes (1) “the welcome intelligence of salvation to man as preached by our Lord and his followers

4 Books

Additonally Gospels aret the first 4 books of the new testament

The Gospels were all composed during the latter part of the first century, and there is distinct historical evidence to show that they were used and accepted as authentic before the end of the second century.

There are four historical accounts of the person and work of Christ: “the first by Matthew, announcing the Redeemer as the promised King of the kingdom of God; the second by Mark, declaring him ‘a prophet, mighty in deed and word’; the third by Luke, of whom it might be said that he represents Christ in the special character of the Saviour of sinners (Luke 7:36; 15:18); the fourth by John, who represents Christ as the Son of God, in whom deity and humanity become one

these books are divided into two catergories synoptic and non synoptics
The synoptic Gospels are called synoptic from a Latin word, which means “seen together,” because the synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke tell many of the same stories, often in the same words, frequently following the same order
This shows the ‘historisicty of the text as these gosepels were written independant of one another years apart
The Gospel of John on the other hand is not included in this
John's Gospel differs from the Synoptic Gospels in several ways: it covers a different time span than the others; it locates much of Jesus' ministry in Judaea; and it portrays Jesus discoursing at length on theological matters.
This is why we often hear people say the Gosepl according to rather then just saying the book of something.

Jesus teaching

The Gospel is often refered to through out the rest of the bible as the fact that christ died for sinners
1 Timothy 1:15 ESV
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
Romans 1:16 ESV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

So What is it really ?

The Gospel is all of these things. however what does this mean for us.
The Gospel is the salvation of all that believe that christ died for them. we have talked about how it is salvaiton for Jews and greeks in previous weeks however I would like to expand on a few points

We all need the Gospel:

We are all sinners who fall for short of Gods glory.
use cancer analogy of sin. it is just part of us a humans we are all sinners
we are all fallen.

You cant out grow the Gospel.

There is a lie that we believe that the Gosepl is how we get saved and it is only for the new christians
that is so wrong and so false. here is the reality we believe that we receive the Gospel and that we grow in faith become strong and we no longer need it. that false. our stregnth is the Gosepl
No! We are strengthened by God through the gospel every day, till the day we drop. You never outgrow the need to preach to yourself the gospel.
1 Thessalonians 5:9–10 ESV
For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.
The Gospel is our stregnth.
make ananology
whether we are alive here on this earth or when we pass and go to eternity we can live with and in christ.
Jesus took the punishment we deserved in order that we can live with him
God came into history in Jesus Christ. He died in order to destroy the power of hell and death and Satan and sin, and he did it through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
you will never out grow that. believe it.
Romans 16:25–27 ESV
Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.
