Love Series - Walking In The Word

Good Morning - Welcome To Walking In The Word
I’m Pastor Ken and during this series we will be talking about Love
Let’s Use Psalm 103 as our foundational text
Psalm 103 NLT
A psalm of David. 1 Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. 2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! 6 The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly. 7 He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. 8 The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. 9 He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. 10 He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. 11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. 12 He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. 13 The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. 14 For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. 15 Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. 16 The wind blows, and we are gone— as though we had never been here. 17 But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children 18 of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments! 19 The Lord has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything. 20 Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. 21 Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will! 22 Praise the Lord, everything he has created, everything in all his kingdom. Let all that I am praise the Lord.
Reading this text you really get a sense of God’s love for us and good and kind God is,
One of God’s love languages is Grace
Grace is when God gives us what we don't deserve!
Another on of God’s Love Languages is Mercy and mercy is when God doesn't give us what we do deserve.
This is the simplest and perhaps most profound way to explain God's Love - mercy and grace.
Ya’ll know we really don't deserve God's forgiveness and all the blessings that come with it.
Why Because of our sins, we do deserve God's anger and punishment. But because God is so kind and so full of love towards us , He judged and punished His Son instead of us.
Psalm 103 is about God's love showing up in so many different ways .
In this psalm, David shows how much he appreciates God's kindness in his life. He had done terrible things like commit adultery and kill someone, but God had forgiven him and put him back together again.
In other psalms, David talked about how his terrible sins made him feel like he couldn't get away from guilt. But he doesn't say anything about that guilt in this psalm.
God's Love , mercy and goodness are so great that He not only forgave David, but also healed him of the wounds he had given himself
Psalm 103:12 (v. 12).
Psalm 103:12 NKJV
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
So let’s break this psalm down as we walk in the Word
Psalm 103:1–5 NKJV
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
David started by praising the Lord loudly. To bless the Lord means to praise, love, and thank God for everything that He is and does. David thanked God for being who He is and for being so good to His people. He did this with all of himself, right down to his deepest self.
a. Sing His praises (v. 1).
Psalm 103:1 NKJV
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
First, David praised and blessed the Lord's holy name. God's name is Yahweh or Jehovah. It says more about who He is and what He feels than any other name. It is the name He used to show Himself to His people and make a covenant with them
Exodus 6:2–8 NLT
2 And God said to Moses, “I am Yahweh—‘the Lord.’ 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty’—but I did not reveal my name, Yahweh, to them. 4 And I reaffirmed my covenant with them. Under its terms, I promised to give them the land of Canaan, where they were living as foreigners. 5 You can be sure that I have heard the groans of the people of Israel, who are now slaves to the Egyptians. And I am well aware of my covenant with them. 6 “Therefore, say to the people of Israel: ‘I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment. 7 I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who has freed you from your oppression in Egypt. 8 I will bring you into the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as your very own possession. I am the Lord!’ ”
Now God is the one who makes a promise to His people and keeps it. He promises them that He will always love and be true to them.
God's name is holy, which means it is holy, sacred, or set apart. It should be so respected and honored that God told His people to never use His name in a common, casual, or fake way
Exodus 20:7 NKJV
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
We are to keep God's name holy and never use it in a way that brings it down or makes it seem less important.
Psalm 103:2–5 NCV
2 My whole being, praise the Lord and do not forget all his kindnesses. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He saves my life from the grave and loads me with love and mercy. 5 He satisfies me with good things and makes me young again, like the eagle.
Second, David thanked God for taking care of His people. He told himself to never forget God's benefits , which are all the good things God does for us
Psalm 13:6 NCV
6 I sing to the Lord because he has taken care of me.
David then listed seven things that God gives us for free because He is so good:
1. Our sins are forgiven (v. 3a) 2. Cures all our illnesses
Psalm 103:3 NLT
3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
3. Redeems our lives from destruction, death, 4. Gives us a love that never changes, 5. Provides Compassion or tender mercies—which are extraordinary acts of love that the Lord gives us because we are His royal sons and daughters(v. 4a)
Psalm 103:4 NKJV
4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
6. Satisfies our desires, especially our spiritual longings or another way to put it Getting what we want, especially what we need spiritually and
7 Renews us on a physical and spiritual level, like how the eagle gets stronger after it sheds its old feathers
Isaiah 40:31 NKJV
31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
Psalm 107:9 NKJV
9 For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.
Matthew 5:6 NKJV
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
John 6:35 NKJV
35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
Taking God's love gifts for granted makes it hard to be thankful and praise Him. Too often, we only see the hard things going on in our lives or the things we don't have, and we forget everything we have in Jesus. If we really trust Jesus, even on our worst days, we are forgiven and made new. We are God's children and the recipients of His unending love and kindness. We are at peace and happy inside in a way that this world can't give us.
Life's problems are only temporary, but the good things that come from God's love, his goodness and his mercy will last forever
2 Corinthians 4:17 NLT
17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!
My challenge to us is to stop looking at the troubles and problems of this life and instead focus on the things we can't see, like the eternal blessings God has given us
2 Corinthians 4:18 NKJV
18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
When we do, we'll be like David and be full of praise for the Lord.
Next week we will look at
verses 6-18
God Bless You

Part 2

Good Morning - Welcome To Walking In The Word
I’m Pastor Ken and we will continue our series talking about Love
Today Let’s Use Psalm 103 6-18 as our foundational text
Psalm 103:6–18 NKJV
6 The Lord executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed. 7 He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel. 8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. 9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. 13 As a father pities his children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him. 14 For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. 15 As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. 16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more. 17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, 18 To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them.
103:6–18)
Give thanks for what the Lord has done.
David thought about all the wonderful things God had done for him and for the people of Israel, the nation of Israel. He talked about the great things the Lord had done and praised Him for being righteous, kind, and loving.
Let’s look a little deeper
Psalm 103:6 NKJV
6 The Lord executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed.
He gives His people justice and punishes those who hurt them (v. 6).
David said that God is true to His people and that He helps them fight back against those who hurt them. God gives them justice by punishing those who hurt them. He does this because He is righteous. God had shown David this over and over again during David's life. He had saved David many times, starting with the giant Philistine Goliath, who made fun of the Lord and His people. David had seen God punish those who hurt him over and over again. This included the jealous King Saul and, his rebellious son Absalom.
God had also shown that He was fair in how He dealt with His people. The best example of this is when God freed Israel from slavery in Egypt. When Pharaoh was mistreating them, God miraculously set them free, punishing Egypt's proud king, his country, and his armies.
b. He showed the world who He is and what He does. He did this through Moses and Israel
Ps. 103:7-16
Psalm 103:7–16 NLT
David praised the Lord for being kind and forgiving because he had been forgiven a lot.
God had shown Moses and His people, Israel, who He was and what He did (v. 7).
Psalm 103:7 NCV
7 He showed his ways to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.
David talked about a certain part of Israel's history. Moses asked God to show him His ways because he was so eager to know and understand the Lord.
God promised to give him what he wanted (Ex. 33:12-23)
Exodus 33:12–23 NKJV
12 Then Moses said to the Lord, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ 13 Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.” 14 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” 15 Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.” 17 So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.” 18 And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.” 19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” 21 And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”
. The next morning, Moses went up Mount Sinai, and as he did, the Lord appeared to Israel's leader
Exodus 34:1–9 NKJV
1 And the Lord said to Moses, “Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will write on these tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke. 2 So be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself to Me there on the top of the mountain. 3 And no man shall come up with you, and let no man be seen throughout all the mountain; let neither flocks nor herds feed before that mountain.” 4 So he cut two tablets of stone like the first ones. Then Moses rose early in the morning and went up Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him; and he took in his hand the two tablets of stone. 5 Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. 6 And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, 7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.” 8 So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped. 9 Then he said, “If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we are a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”
Then, the Lord made a promise to Moses and the people of Israel. He said that He would do great things for them, miracles that no one had ever seen before
Exodus 34:10–27 NKJV
10 And He said: “Behold, I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the Lord. For it is an awesome thing that I will do with you. 11 Observe what I command you this day. Behold, I am driving out from before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. 12 Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst. 13 But you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images 14 (for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God), 15 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice to their gods, and one of them invites you and you eat of his sacrifice, 16 and you take of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters play the harlot with their gods and make your sons play the harlot with their gods. 17 “You shall make no molded gods for yourselves. 18 “The Feast of Unleavened Bread you shall keep. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, in the appointed time of the month of Abib; for in the month of Abib you came out from Egypt. 19 “All that open the womb are Mine, and every male firstborn among your livestock, whether ox or sheep. 20 But the firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb. And if you will not redeem him, then you shall break his neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. “And none shall appear before Me empty-handed. 21 “Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; in plowing time and in harvest you shall rest. 22 “And you shall observe the Feast of Weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year’s end. 23 “Three times in the year all your men shall appear before the Lord, the Lord God of Israel. 24 For I will cast out the nations before you and enlarge your borders; neither will any man covet your land when you go up to appear before the Lord your God three times in the year. 25 “You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leaven, nor shall the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover be left until morning. 26 “The first of the firstfruits of your land you shall bring to the house of the Lord your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.” 27 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”
David remembered that God had shown Moses that He was a fair judge. He said what God had told Moses about Himself: that He is kind, understanding, generous, slow to get angry, and full of mercy
Psalm 103:8 NKJV
8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
David kept praising God's kindness by saying that the Lord doesn't keep accusing us or get angry when we do wrong (v. 9). He doesn't punish us or give us back as much as our sins deserve (v. 10). His love for those who really respect, obey, and revere Him soars higher than the highest heavens (v. 11). He forgives all of our sins and takes them away from us, sending them far away for all time (v. 12).
Psalm 103:12 NKJV
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Here is something to think about - the Lord doesn't get rid of our sins as far as the north is from the south, but as far as the east is from the west.
Why does this matter? Because in the end, the north and south will meet. You can only go so far north—to the North Pole of the earth—before you have to turn around and go south. A person going east, on the other hand, can go east forever. He could go around the world over and over again, always going east. Just like east and west never meet, those of us whose sins have been forgiven by God will never meet them again. That’s Love
David said that God is like a loving father who knows his children and understands their weaknesses. He is always kind, loving, and caring to those who truly respect and fear Him (v. 13).
Psalm 103:13 NLT
13 The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
God knows everything about us because he made us. He knows that we are nothing but dust (v. 14).
Psalm 103:14 NLT
14 For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.
We have to follow the rules and limits of nature, just like the grass and flowers in the field. We do well for a short time, but not for long.
Disease and old age happen quickly, and then our short lives on earth end (vv. 15-16).
Psalm 103:15–16 NKJV
15 As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. 16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more.
He gives all who fear Him his eternal love and righteousness (vv. 17-18).
Psalm 103:17–18 NKJV
17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, 18 To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them.
God's love goes beyond the fleeting moments of our short lives, which is good news. His kindness or love never ends has no limits. The most important thing about God is that He loves. So, His love is from everlasting to everlasting, just like God. It is infinite, unlimited, and eternal (v. 17).
All who fear the Lord receive His eternal love and righteousness, and He stays true to their families for generations.
David went on to say that God's love is always there for those who are loyal to His covenant and follow His rules (v. 18).
God's love is always there, but many of His blessings depend on how well we follow His rules. In the case of God's promise to Israel, this was the case. His love for and loyalty to the people He chose will never change. But some of the promises of the covenant were directly linked to how loyal and obedient the people were to God.
Thought 1: All that we are and have is because God is kind and merciful to us (1 Cor. 15:10). Where would we be if God hadn't done so much good in our lives? Where would we be without His kindness and love that never changes?
The results of God's Love are His works. The Lord wants us to know who He is and how He acts. He is kind, merciful, and willing to forgive.
We can't understand how much he loves us (Eph. 3:17-19).
Ephesians 3:17–19 NKJV
17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
God is not a cruel dictator, but a loving father who understands his children. He knows what we're like and knows how weak we are. Just as important, His Son became one of us so that He could understand how weak we are. Christ can help us when we face trials and temptations because He went through them himself (Heb. 2:16-18; 4:15-16).
God is good to us in many ways, blessing us even though we don't deserve it. As a loving father, God also enjoys giving us good things when we do what He says. The full measure of His blessings is for those who fear Him, who respect Him and listen to what He says. This promise should make us want to give all of ourselves to God and do everything He tells us to do.
"Oh, how deep are the riches of God's wisdom and knowledge! How hard it is to find out what he thinks and how he acts! (Rom. 11:33).
"And they sing the song of Moses, God's servant, and the song of the Lamb, saying, "Great and wonderful are your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are your ways, you King of saints." (Re. 15:3).
"Then hear in heaven, where you live, and forgive and do and give to each person according to his ways, whose heart you know; for you alone know the hearts of all people, so that they will fear you as long as they live in the land you gave to our forefathers." (1 Ki. 8:39-40).
"Oh that people would praise the Lord for being good and doing great things for people!" (Ps. 107:8).
"It's because of the Lord's kindness that we don't die, because his compassion never runs out." (La. 3:22).

Part 3

Good Morning - Welcome To Walking In The Word
I’m Pastor Ken and we will continue our series talking about Love
Today Let’s Use Psalm 103 19-22 as our foundational text
Psalm 103:19–22 NKJV
19 The Lord has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all. 20 Bless the Lord, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. 21 Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, You ministers of His, who do His pleasure. 22 Bless the Lord, all His works, In all places of His dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!
(103:19-22) Invite everyone to praise the Lord.
David ended his praise of God's kindness and goodness by telling everyone to praise the Lord. He asked God's angels and everything else God made to join him in blessing the holy name of the Lord.
a. Because He set up His kingdom in the heavens and rules over everything (v. 19).
David told us to send our praise to God's throne in heaven, where God rules over everything. We should praise Him because He is Lord over everything. He has set up His kingdom in the heavens, where He rules over all of His creation with his power.
b. Because He deserves all praise (vv. 20-22).
As the eternal, all-powerful, and kind God, the Lord deserves worship from everyone. David asked the powerful angels who work for God in His heavenly court to bless the Lord (vv. 20-21). He should be worshipped by everyone in heaven.
The Bible doesn't tell us much about what angels are like. The Holy Spirit used David to tell us a big part of what the Bible says about them in three parallel statements:
Angels are the strongest things God made (v. 20a). They are the most powerful things God made.
Angels do what God tells them to do. They listen to what He says (v. 20b).
Angels are God's heavenly hosts , His heavenly army that fights against Satan's demonic forces (v. 21a).
Angels are God's ministers or servants (v. 21b).
Angels do what makes God happy, which is His will. They work hard to do what God wants on earth (v. 21c).
David didn't just ask the angels to praise and worship God. He also asked all of God's works, or everything that God made, to do so (v. 22a). "In all places of His dominion" means that God rules everywhere. In other words, it talks about the whole world.
David started and ended Psalm 103 by telling his own soul to praise the Lord (v. 22b). Everyone, each and every one of us, should praise and worship the Lord like David did.
God made everything out of love and for His own glory. David knew this, so he asked all of God's creations, even the angels, to praise Him. The call to David is a call to us, we don't deserve God's love or grace. God decided that the best way to show how great He is is through sinful people like us. We are His creations, His works of art
Ephesians 2:8–10 NKJV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
God's work in making the world is great, but what He has done to save people is even better. All of His works will praise His name, but those of us whose lives He has saved and changed through His love goodness and mercy should praise Him the most.
Here are some bible verses to write down and review
"That we should be to the glory of him who first put his trust in Christ." (Eph. 1:12).
"Glory to him in the church through Christ Jesus for all time and all eternity. Amen” (Eph. 3:21).
"And every living thing in heaven, on earth, under the earth, in the sea, and all that is in them heard me say, "Blessing, honor, glory, and power be to him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever" (Re. 5:13).
"All greatness, power, glory, victory, and majesty are thine, O Lord, for all that is in heaven and on earth is thine. Thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are at the top as the head of all." (1 Chr. 29:11).
"Let heaven and earth, the seas, and everything that moves in them, all praise him." (Ps. 69:34).
"All of your works will praise you, Lord, and your saints will bless you," says the Bible. (Ps. 145:10).
