Main Text: Matt 14:30-31
Matthew 14:30–31 KJV
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Text:
Matthew 14:22–33 KJV
And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
Thoughts:
I dreamed about a friend of mine who has recently suffered tremendous loss regarding their family. On Wednesday morning, I dreamed that they had lost additional family members. In the dream, I encouraged them to “Keep Their Eyes on Jesus” it was the only thing that I could tell them that would help them in their time of pain.
Jesus is the only one who can pull us through life’s most difficult and challenging moments.
I woke up from the dream around 4 o’clock and went to my office to record what I dreamed because I knew the LORD was dealing with me on what to say for this week.
Subconsciously, I myself prior to retiring for the night on Wednesday dealt with an extreme burden for the church. My concern for the church (as a whole) is that we not be deceived. My concern for the church is that we maintain and earnestly contend for the the faith that was once delivered unto us.
I thought LORD, with so many people going astray, with so much trouble that is happening in the world, with so many false teachings prevalent how do we maintain......The Lord spoke to me in my dream and said “Keep Your Eyes On Me.”
The LORD laid upon my heart a passage of scripture that I have preached from several times.
I thought about Peter as he stepped out of the ship to meet Jesus on the water.
Peter was able to accomplish something that was against all odds. He was able to walk on the water as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus.
We have to keep our eyes on Jesus......otherwise we will fail. We have to keep our eyes on Jesus......otherwise we will drown. There are so many distraction all around us........we have to keep our eyes on Jesus!!!
Peter saw these distractions, he saw, he felt, he heard. He saw, he felt, he heard. Don’t allow what you see, what you feel, and what you hear to cause you to take your eyes of the hope in Jesus. Peter got distracted.
And when he took his eyes of Jesus, when he took his eyes off the word, the healer, the miracle worker, the rock, he began to sink!!!
Sometimes when we are overwhelmed with the problems of life, it can feel like we too are sinking. We become overwhelmed by this problem, you put the fire out over here, but now a new fire has started somewhere else.
Give your best and your best doesn’t seem as if it is enough.
You take one step forward and seemingly two steps back.
And before you know, you’re drowning in bills, your drowning in family issues, your health is failing, your job is talking about letting you go, your spouse is threatening to leave you, you’re drowning in stress, possibly drowning in despair.
What do you do?
YOU LOOK TO JESUS!!!! He’s the only one that can help you, He is the only one that can pull you through!!!
I know it may sound simple......but I believe in the power of prayer!!! I believe that prayer changes things!!!
And the wonderful thing about God is that the LORD is so awesome and understanding that you don’t have to go on a long super sanctified tongue tangent with swelling words and a long speech!!!
Matthew 6:7–8 KJV
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Matthew 6:7–8 NLT
“When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!
Sometimes the most effective prayers are the prayers that doesn’t have a lot of words!!!
You don’t believe me? Look at scripture:
The woman from Canaan:
Matthew 15:22 KJV
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
She didn’t have a long conversation with the LORD.......she basically asked for the LORD to have mercy on her!!!
The blind beggar that sat near Jericho: Everybody else ignored him, nobody could do anything to help his situation. But when he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, he shouted with a loud voice “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me!”
And the people tried to tell him to be quiet. But they didn’t understand what he had been through, they didn’t understand what he needed from the LORD, DESPERATE TIMES CALL FOR DESPERATE MEASURES!!!
He talked to others and no one helped him, he pleaded with others and they ignored him. But when he found out Jesus was coming “HE CEASED THE MOMENT!!!”
When they told him to be quiet, HE SHOUTED EVEN LOUDER “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Maybe you ought to try it this morning, you ought to lift your hands and shout “Jesus, HAVE MERCY ON ME!!!”
I said sometimes, the most effective prayers are the prayers that has very few words. When you have faith and when you are in constant fellowship with the LORD, you’ll find that you don’t have to say a long drawn out prayer. Those work too.....but when you are in trouble.......SOMETIMES YOU DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THAT!!!!
PETER........was in trouble!!! He just wanted to be with the LORD out on the water and on his way out there......he took his eyes off of Jesus and began to sink!!!
But Peter, right before he went down was able to get off a quick effective prayer!!!! “LORD SAVE ME!!!!” Just three words!!! If you are having trouble in your life, if you feel as if you are sinking, if you need a miracle this morning, if you want the LORD to do a new thing in your life, if you have faith......let’s repeat the prayer that Peter said “LORD save me!”
You have a love one sick, you have a love one that is in a backslidden state, you have a love one on drugs, your boss, your co-workers are giving you a hard time, pray three words “LORD SAVE THEM!!!”
Let me give you an amplifier scripture. Let me give you a scripture that will increase your faith:
Matthew 21:22 KJV
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
1 John 5:14–15 KJV
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
If you believe the word of God.......I don’t need you to believe me. I need you to believe the WORD OF GOD!!! God cannot lie!!! God cannot lie!!! God cannot lie!!!
I you believe you’re going to receive......put a praise on it!!! Praise the LORD.......Praise the LORD......Praise the LORD!!!
Closing:
TESTIFY TO ABOUT THREE PEOPLE AND TELL THEM “HE’S GOING TO PULL US THROUGH!!!”
When the Lord heard Peter’s prayer........the LORD reached down and pulled him out of the water and rescued him!!!
THAT’S HOW YOU’RE GOING TO GET THROUGH........JESUS IS GOING TO PULL YOU THROUGH!!!! TELL SOMEONE........JESUS IS GOING TO PULL ME THROUGH!!!
I have faith, I believe God, I believe His word.......HE’S GOING TO PULL ME THROUGH!!!
