1 Samuel 13:14 - “But now your kingdom shall not endure.
The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has appointed him ruler over His people because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”
A man after His own heart : Study of David
· David is Israel’s true king (1 Sam 16:12-13).
Although Saul was the first God-appointed King of Israel, He was appointed to satisfy people’s need to be led by something they can see.
He was not anointed by God to serve.
· David was the youngest son of Jesse, which is unaccustomed for him to be chosen as King.
· David was a shepherd from Bethlehem (1 Sam 16:11).
He was knowledgeable in tending to the sheep as Jesus declared that if you love him, tend to his sheep (John 21: 15-17).
He knows how to take care of something dependent on him for protection and survival.
· David led Israel to its pinnacle of power and glory, and become the ideal for a future messianic leader.
The fulfillment of this ideal is in Jesus, a descendant from the house of David.
· David was multifaceted.
He was a shepherd, military leader, king, covenantal recipient, poet, musician, husband, and father.
Many of the different roles led to a more balanced nature.
