The Father is the Source of every good and perfect gift while the Son and Spirit are the Means by which they are given
The Father is the Source of every good and perfect gift while the Son and Spirit are the Means by which they are given
One God - the Father from whom are all things and we exist for Him - Distinct from Christ as the One by which we exist
1 Cor 8.6 “yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.”
The Father knows and reveals the Son and He gives to Christ all things
Matt 11.27 ““All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.”
The Father alone knows when the Christ will return
Matt 24.36 ““But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.”
The Father seeks true worshippers
John 4.21-23 “Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.”
God is spirit - does not possess a physical body
John 4.24 ““God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.””
The Father raises from the dead and in Christ all His fullness of Deity dwells
John 5.21 ““For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.”
Col 2.9-12 “For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells bodily, and in Him you have been filled, who is the head over all rule and authority; in whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.”
The Father gives all judgment to the Son
John 5.22 ““For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,”
The Father is the Possessor of life itself
John 5.26 ““For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;”
The Father gave Christ work to do and sent Him
John 5.36 ““But the witness I have is greater than the witness of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness about Me, that the Father has sent Me.”
Before the Father all men stand accused
John 5.45 ““Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope.”
The Father draws those who come to Christ
John 6.44 ““No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.”
The Father is one with Christ
Jn 10.30 ““I and the Father are one.””
Those who serve Christ will be honored by the Father
Jn 12.26 ““If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.”
The Father and the Son send the Spirit
Jn 14.26 ““But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
The Father of mercies and God of all comfort
2 Cor 1.3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,”
The Father qualifies us to share in the inheritance
Col 1.12 “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.”
Gives every good gift
James 1.17 “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”
Matt 7.11 ““If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!”
James 4:3 “You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.”
Gives all authority to Christ
Matt 28.18 “And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
The Father glorifies His Name
John 12.28 ““Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.””
Warm and familiar but also Reverence
Rom 8.15 “For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry out, “Abba! Father!””
Gal 4.6 “And because you are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!””
Concerned about those He loves
Mt 3.17 “and behold, there was a voice out of the heavens saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.””
Dt 7.7-8 ““Yahweh did not set His affection on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but because Yahweh loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your fathers, Yahweh brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”
Feeds / Provides
Matt 6.26-28 ““Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? “And who of you by being worried can add a single cubit to his life span? “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,”
Foreknew
Eph 1.4 “just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him in love,”
1 Pt 1.2 “according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to the obedience of Jesus Christ and the sprinkling of His blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.”
I deny modalism because Scripture does - God is not One person with three different names
God the Father, Son and Spirit are equal
Matt 28.19-20 ““Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to keep all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.””
