Introduction

Crux of the is Psalm

Linked with Ps 38-39.
A thanksgiving followed by a lament.
The Thanks is based on what transpires in the previous two Psalms regarding His enemies.
Ps 40:1 “I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.”
APPL. You wait God will hear.
The reason why I wait on God is because I know God is good - God is someone to wait on!!!! Ps 52:9 “I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it, And I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.” Ps 25:5 “Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.”
Think about your favourite food place [gyro, roti, doubles etc.]
Ps 40:2 “He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.”
I’ve seen animals stuck in mud. They struggle and fight but the mud is just too much to handle. APPL. You’ve been trying to get out but nothing is working. . .
When someone tries to rescue them, they fight and resist - APPL. Some of us are doing that right now, God is saying come here but you’re fighting.
APPL. the animal is weakened even when it is rescued, it’s on solid ground but it can’t stand! He didn’t just pull him out and set him on stable ground, BUT God made him stable. . .His footsteps became stable because where God placed him.
I must stand where God is, “. . on Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand
Ps 40:3 “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the Lord.”
Sometime the song has fresh meaning because of an experience that we have. “My Jesus Knows”
My Jesus knows when I am burdened He knows how much my heart can bear He lifts me up when I am sinking He brings me joy beyond compare
The hope is that it will lead others to TRUST (be confident) in GOD.
Consider [read the two verses] the refrain Ps 40:4How blessed is the man who has made the Lord his trust, And has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.” - APPL. This blessing only comes when you do not turn elsewhere
How many times have we turned somewhere else before we turned to God??
Train our minds to turn to God when trouble hits. If I don’t, I’m sending a message that I do not need God for this. “I dethrone Him everytime
Ps 40:5 “Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders which You have done, And Your thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with You. If I would declare and speak of them, They would be too numerous to count.”
Incomparible - who/what can match God?
Incaluable - just for you to get here, involved so many blessings.

Why go to anyone else?

Let’s stay with God
