Understanding the Passage

I. The superscription, “and Hannah prayed,” does not suit precisely the contents of the following Song, which is not exactly a prayer (תְּפִלָּה) but a thanksgiving-testimony to the Lord and the revelation of His glory. Clericus: “Hannah rather sings praises to God than asks anything of Him.”
John Peter Lange et al., A Commentary on the Holy Scriptures: 1 & 2 Samuel (Bellingham, WA: Logos Bible Software, 2008), 64.

Exulting in the Lord

I. My heart exults in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord, My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation.
New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1995), 1 Sa 2:1.
A. What does this word mean?
a. CDWGTHB says it means to “jump; be joyful; triumph
II. How is it that Hannah’s heart can exult in the Lord or be joyful in the Lord?
A. We see a critical observation made by Hannah…she has enemies
a. As followers of Jesus Christ, we understand that this is the struggle, this is where the rubber meets the road. Exulting in the Lord while knowing that there are enemies on the doorstep, waiting to for a chance to shake you up.
b. I believe that there is a reason why joy is the second fruit of the spirit.
God wouldn’t just throw them in a list that is randomized. Where the order does not have significance, because what’s the first fruit of the spirit?
LOVE
God even backs this up by saying “…the greatest of these, is love thy neighbor as yourself...”
B. “...Because I rejoice in Your salvation.”
New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1995), 1 Sa 2:1.
a. What is the reason in which Hannah gives as to why she can have joy?
The Lord’s salvation
Deliverance, help, saving
b. Hannah has yet another crucial recognition
Her joy, is a result of the Lord interceding in her life.
c. Hannah’s joy does not come from the world in which she lives in. Her joy comes from the Lord.
Hannah has such a confidence with where her joy comes from, she speaks boldly against her enemies.
She speaks with confidence!
