Table of nations by generation
Genesis 10 ESV
1 These are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood. 2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. 3 The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. 4 The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. 5 From these the coastland peoples spread in their lands, each with his own language, by their clans, in their nations. 6 The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan. 7 The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. 8 Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord. Therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the Lord.” 10 The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. 11 From that land he went into Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, and 12 Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. 13 Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, 14 Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim. 15 Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn and Heth, 16 and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, 17 the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, 18 the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the clans of the Canaanites dispersed. 19 And the territory of the Canaanites extended from Sidon in the direction of Gerar as far as Gaza, and in the direction of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. 20 These are the sons of Ham, by their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations. 21 To Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, children were born. 22 The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. 23 The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. 24 Arpachshad fathered Shelah; and Shelah fathered Eber. 25 To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan. 26 Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba, 29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. 30 The territory in which they lived extended from Mesha in the direction of Sephar to the hill country of the east. 31 These are the sons of Shem, by their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations. 32 These are the clans of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, in their nations, and from these the nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood.
In Genesis 10 we see:
The unity of humanity - all men are under the curse of sin and death
The hope of Messiah - we need a Savior, someone to rescue us
Japheth, Ham, Shem - we see the generations of Noah’s sons
Noah has died at the age of 950. And while there are 11 generations between Noah and Abraham, Abraham will be born just 2 years after Noah’s death
Table of nations Josephus
The authority of Scripture confirmed
Adam to Abraham - the genealogies support the historicity of the Bible
From Genesis 10 we learn:
(1) The world of Adam (before the Fall), the world of Noah (before the flood), the world of today (before the return of Christ)
(2) From one sinless, innocent man came disobedience
(3) From one obedient, sinful man came a new humanity
But there was no Savior
While there was a Mighty man, Nimrod, but there was no man that we could call, Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace as Isaiah would predict
(4) From one obedient, sinless God-Man came a new creation
Only in Jesus do we see perfect obedience and sinless perfection
Only in Jesus do we see the one who could create more than children, He would create those who are children of God
We need to hear the words of Paul:
Acts 17:24–28 ESV
24 The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. 26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, 27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, 28 for “ ‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “ ‘For we are indeed his offspring.’
Name a current attempt to change the world:
Political solutions
Environmental solutions
Societal solutions
Only in Jesus do we see these words fulfilled
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Romans 5:17 ESV
17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

In the genealogy of Genesis 10 we see the rise of human autonomy. In other words, we see the world growing distant from God
Al Moehler, Feb 3, 2023 - The Briefing
Civilizations and cultures certainly don't hold on to those conservative principles for long because if they restrict human autonomy, well over time, human beings are going to claim that autonomy and without the creator saying, "You shall and you shall not." Well then, the autonomous, supposedly autonomous human being, is going to say, "Well, I get to decide that for myself."
That other issue I would point to is just what I named, human autonomy, the idea that we are not creatures under the command and the authority of the creator, but rather we are just autonomous beings and we have the right to determine, to identify, and to follow our own chosen destiny.
But there's some other things that had to happen, and one of those was what's been called, Philip Rieff was the author here, The Triumph of the Therapeutic. The rise of therapy is such a big issue because the Christian worldview says that the most basic problem of humans, and this means all humanity and that means every single human being, is sin. We've sinned against God. But the therapeutic mentality says, number one, it's not you who is broken, it's something outside of you. The problem is outside of you. You need to find coping mechanisms, because if there's something broken inside of you, it's only broken because of something broken outside of you.
The Christian worldview says exactly the opposite. The problem is inside of you, and salvation according to scripture comes only from outside of you. That is to say from Jesus Christ. The therapeutic culture says the opposite, and that is that the problem is outside of you and that salvation comes from inside of you. So those things certainly had to take place.
And I'll simply say another part of the secularization of the culture is just the rejection of biblical authority because the Bible's very clear on these issues. And so the only way around these issues is to find a way around the Bible. And that's the entire modern secular liberal project. And by the way, shame unto those who will call themselves Christians who have aided and abetted that great secular liberal project.
