Introduction
The Holy Spirit is one of the most prominent beings in Scripture.
The Bible begins and ends with the Spirit.
In Genesis 1 the Spirit of God hovered over the water and brought order out of chaos.
In Revelation 22 the Holy Spirit invites us all to come.
With the evidences of the Holy Spirit throughout the Bible many of us still don’t understand who the Holy Spirit is and what His role is with us.
First, the Holy Spirit was “not” born at Pentecost.
He had already been at work in the world since the time of creation.
However, at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit assumed a more prominent place in the work of the kingdom.
Jesus explained about the Holy Spirit in these passages known as the Paraclete Sayings.
They are recorded in John 14-16.
Four times, Jesus mentioned one whom He called the parakletos, which is transliterated into English as "Paraclete."
In this first message, we will consider what Jesus says about the role of the Holy Spirit, our helper, advocate, or counselor.
Our focus should be on loving the Spirit as a person of the Trinity rather than simply using the Spirit to decode our need for discernment.
One of the Spirit’s main roles is to transform us more into the likeness of Christ.
He does this by showing us the reality of our hearts—the good and the bad.
Who better to know our hearts than the God who created us and sent his Spirit to dwell within us forever?
