12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
Challenge questions:
1. IS your faith about status quo? What is the standard of that benchmark?
2. How little can I do in my daily life and still be a Christian?
3. If I don’t see miracles when I pray for healing, do I not have enough faith?
4. What is the will of God in my life today?
My Questions:
1. What works is he talking about? How do we exceed the works of Christ? (Vs. 12)
2. Does asking involve money/possessions, abilities, or does this have a deeper meaning? (Vs. 13)
3. “anything” isn’t very specific, does anything mean everything? (Vs. 14)
4. Why would a teen need this information in their life?
Truths:
To love Christ, is to follow his commands.
We have a counselor to bring remembrance those things, which Christ brought.
Introduction:
What is the potential of knowing Christ?
1. Christ is the way. (the Death)
Christ is the only way to the father.
In his sacrifice we are given a way to connect with the father
Because of this we are given direction in our lives
Jesus is known by his followers therefore he can assert that he knows where they are going.
Our faith in Christ cannot be religious.
If so, we can live our lives trying to stay in the boundaries of law
Motivated only by the results of our actions
How far can I go without going too far
How little can I do and still be “following” my beliefs
Reach your potential
Verses 12-14
2. Christ is the Truth.
Christ is the truth that this world needed to come to the Father
Jesus came to reveal the heart of the father through Christ’s teachings
His disciples knew him and had lived in their lives
I have only been here a year and a half and only get coffee dates with some of you maybe month. In order to build the trust of your followers you need to be in their lives.
Do your trust the truth that Jesus presented?
3. Christ is the Life. (The Resurrection)
Christ is the only one that can bring eternal life.
Christ put on the sin of the world and died on that cross for our sins
Christ also conquered death, He lives!!!!
This the gospel we are given
It is only in the resurrection that we are reconciled to the Father.
Conclusion:
1 Corinthians 15:54-58
When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
