Introduction: “Time to get away”
Who has big plans for their summer? Me too. When I was in Jr. and Sr. High my family and I would head out to the Long Lake for 3-4 weeks. Our lodging was my Grandparents cabin. The cabin space was small but there was room for all of us to sleep out there. When we were kids the bathroom was an outhouse beside the cabin. This was a less than appealing part of the camping experience but in time we got a toilet in the cabin with running water. Our cabin was seconds from the Lake front area, which made it really easy to make your way to the water.
Every time we headed out to the cabin for the summer I had one major plan, catch as many fish as possible. Beyond that, I liked to get out the beach as much a possible, maybe go to the farmers market once or twice. When you got down to it with all my planned activities, there wasn’t really that much left to fit into my schedule. Tonight I would like to talk about fitting God into our summer plans. You may say that God is always with you with is true but, are you building into that relationship.
Prayer.
What does the Lord require of you?
Read Micah 6:6-8 “With what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
What these people wanted out of the relationship
They want a distant God, all about sacrifice
They like where they are, not wanting more
They guard their simple relationships.
Verse 8: “The response”
Do justice:
Not judging others but living a just life
Living upright
Walking with God’s plans not easy but worth it.
Love mercy:
care for others
God is love
Let your buddy rub off
Walk humbly:
This is the relationship
Get to know him, in prayer
See his grace, in scripture
Follow his direction, Holy Spirit
