What we are discussing today…
The new life we have in Christ Jesus and the power of walkingfully in this life.
BE AN EXAMPLE OF THE WORK OF GOD IN OUR WORLD.
Scripture: Ephesians 4:17-32
Background:
Cultural - Jews and Greeks. (EPHESUS)
Thye lived in a culture that
Spiritual - those that follow Christ are looking for life - those that follow their own desires are ignorantly chancing corruption
Points:

To Put off OLD

Explanation
This is the action of taking off the past actions and practices of our old life in order to properly live in the new life that we have been given. Being able to recognize the corruption of the old self is crucial for being able to move.
These Ephesus Christians are told that they are no longer called to the old ways and the teaching of Christ didn’t include the behaviors of their old ways
We change from death to life
We didn’t do the work of the Lord but are guided by our feelings (Sinful Nature) and not Jesus.
We change from a life of self reliance to submission
We follow that work and act of the Holy Spirit in us
Our struggle:
Is a backwards move for most of us built on FOMO
Fear of missing out
Yes you are missing out, on a life that doesn’t build you up but brings corruption
It’s not that bad… :(
We have struggled in submitting to God and in turn we have grieved the Holy Spirit.
Application: Work towards pulling off the old
FInding that battle in prayer
Each morning coming to God
To fight our feelings of missing out.

To be renewed

This is a process not just an incident. Those that have been given the opportunity to be renewed are doing so daily. It is a reflection of the work of the Holy Spirit in them.
The work of the Holy Spirit in each of us is an action of disciplining in oneself to not only to run from the curruptable old way of living, but also entering into a relationship with our God that will develop us. We aren't there yet.
How it happens…
It is about pattern | Romans 12:2 - not conformed but tested
Our minds are instruments for
It is about motivation | As those that are following the call of Christ, we change our motivations. We live to serve Christ not ourselves. This change general is seen by examples like Jesus calling himself the vine in John.
It is about direction | 2 Corinthians 10:5 - take your thoughts captive
We can't always control the the images that flash before our eyes, but we can take hold of them and make them submissive to the will of God.
OF OUR THINKING…
What we need to protect?
We need to be protecting our relationship with the Holy Spirit. As followers of Christ we identify the Holy Spirit with personal characteristics. Paul tells us near the end of our passage today that we can actually grieve the Holy Spirit. This grieving happens when our actions and choices pull us away from living in God's purposes and move toward acting on the desires of our sinful nature.

To put on NEW

We are to out on our new lives as Christ followers. This requires us to see the new person we are in Jesus and pursue his action in our lives. Noticing the new live that we have have in Jesus shows us our purpose for life. To love, serve and follow.
We as followers of Christ need to follow Christ in our actions. We see some practical examples in the text of how God is calling us to change work towards putting on our new self.
Galatians 5 impact…
Closing…
This world could use more examples of Christ regardless of the choice that they are going to do when we act.
