Mark 5:21-24, 35-43“A lesson of faith”
Have you ever gotten bad news? A doctor said to his patient, “I have bad news and worse news.” The patient said “So let’s have it.” “The bad news is that you only have 24 hours to live.” The patient replied “I can’t imagine what could be worse than that!” “Well” said the doctor, “I forgot to tell you yesterday.”
Context: Storm of 4:35-41 (3 people caught in great storms of life)
We have all been caught in the storms of life, but is there any storm worse than the news that you or your loved one is about to die or has died? Death seems so final, but we know that for those who are in Jesus death is not the end but merely the beginning! We see proof of this fact in the Scene of the!
CPS: Valentine’s day is tomorrow and it
Faith Brought Jairus to Jesus’ feet 5:21-23
Faith broke many barriers (crowd, position, and peers) leading Jairous prostate at the foot of Jesus because he knew that Jesus would heal her of her affliction.
Faith brought Jesus to Jairus’ House5:24, 35-37
Jesus commands Jairus to keep faith, the same faith that lead him to Jesus will bring his daughter back to life.
Faith brought resurrection to Jairus’ family 5:38-43
The fact that Jairus continued with Jesus and brought Him inside his home even though He was technically unclean, even though his daughter was dead is evidence of tremendous faith! The resurrection of the little girl is evidence of salvation for this family, in the Gospels physical healing and spiritual salvation go hand and hand.
Conclusion: This scene is a preview of what Jesus has done for us, as He raised this little girl to life it is proven that death is not final and like the girl who received physical resurrection of life we have spiritual resurrection of life in our future through faith! Because of this we can sing oh death where is sting even as we view death right in the face!
Homiletics teaches that as you conclude a sermon you never bring up new info, however today I will use bad homiletics, not only do we view our story in the context of the great storm but perhaps we also view it with the parables of chapter 4 in mind as well. It was the seed planted in the good soil that sprang to life, in chapter 5 we see3 people afflicted and in hopeless situations yet they find salvation. Perhaps the soil of our hearts are conditioned by God through the circumstance we find ourselves in as He draws us to His feet.
So, what can we learn from this scene, when troubles come into our lives it is quite possible that God is teaching us a lesson in faith and this lesson begins and ends at the feet of Jesus Christ.
