Text: Mark 6:30-56
Intro:
CPS: Jesus loves people and came to serve not be served regardless of our needs we can find fulfillment in Him.
When you are hungry He gives His Provision vs. 35-44
After the disciples first ministered without Jesus they return and gave a report. Jesus ministers to them attempting to take them to a remote place where could be with Him on a sabbatical. They were so busy they had no time to eat. They get in a boat a shove off in the Sea of Galilee to go to a remote place but the crowd saw them leave and set out on the shoreline running to get ahead of them.
Imagine: small crowd comes running through a village and pick up more runners, then another, and another, next then you now you have a huge crowd.
It is important to note that in this time, the leading villages like Capernaum had a population of 1,000 – 3,000 people. They arrive to a crowd of 5,000 men and an unknown number of women and children.
Moved) with Compassion (feel sympathy for to have pity on)
Sheep without a Shepard – Lacking Spiritual leadership – hungry and defenseless
He began to teach them many things
The ministry of the disciples VS. 35****
Day was Spent – getting late
Jesus is it getting supper time Send them away so they could buy food.
***there would not be a market places or a villages large enough to feed this crowd – they would have to travel back home
Jesus knows this and tells the disciples to feed them
GIVE YE THEM SOMETHING TO EAT
It is impossible – even if we could it would cost us 200 days of wages.
Jesus asked how many loaves do we have?
5 and 2
The miracle of Jesus
Commands to sit in groups of 50-100
Took them
Looked up to heaven and blessed them
Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. 42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. John 11:42
Jesus broke the bread and the disciples distribute the bread.
NB) Jesus did not distribute the food Himself. He allowed His disciples to do this. His plan is to feed the world through His people.
When it was all said and done everyone was full and 12 baskets full remained.
Sometimes when you are a follower of Jesus there isn’t any time for rest.
Instead of a sabbatical they learn a great lesson of trusting in Jesus even when they were physically, mentally, and spiritually spent!
This is the only miracle recorded in all four gospels and Mark and Matthew record the feeding of the 4,000
The feeding miracle was important to the early church they knew if Jesus could feed multitudes to their fill and still have leftovers He would provide for them.
Illustration: Weds. Dream about Mike Harris… 1 year anniversary of my job being terminated. How God has provided for us.
Application: Disciples of the Lord Jesus should never doubt His power to supply their needs. If He can feed five thousand men with five loaves and two fish, He can provide for His trusting servants under any circumstances. They can labor for Him without worry as to where their food is coming from. If they seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, every need will be supplied.
Seek first – We are missing out on an abundance of blessings because we constantly ask Jesus to bless us where we are and in what we are doing but we seldom seek Him in what He is doing.
Seek Jesus and be apart of what He is doing in this world and you will have no needs go unmet.
When you are helpless He gives His presence vs. 45-52
Orientate to story
The difficulties of obedience
It was evening time around 6pm the sun went down
Jesus went to the mountain to pray
When He began His journey to Bethsaida
He saw the disciples being battered in the middle of the sea
Toiling - Battered- (distress or tormented) in their rowing.
A great wind was against them they
Miracle: dark they had been rowing for hours. How could He see them and tell what was happening….. He is God
They were going no where
Illustration: Rowing a boat into the wind, the boat is pushed harder by the wind than you are rowing. You are going nowhere.
Difficulties – 2nd time this has happened – in the center of God’s will doing exactly as Jesus ordered and they find difficulty.
If you obey Jesus you will not be kept from difficulty – you may experience greater difficulty but you have the assurance that Jesus the creator of the universe is with you.
The delights of obedience
Around 3 am Jesus walking on the water
They see Him and think He is a Ghost and they Cried out
Cried Out (shriek out of terror)
It was dark they could not see who it was but they heard Jesus’ voice
“have courage, it is I, Don’t be afraid!
Astounding words of cheer
In their difficulty they found the presence of the Lord with them.
He got into the boat with them
Can you imagine their delight when what they were afraid turned out to be Jesus the prince of peace?
Then their difficulty wasn’t so difficult because the wind had died.
Ill.
Application: AS followers of Jesus difficulties will come.
Times of seemingly helplessness
When you are hurting He gives His power vs. 53-56
Hurting people
Healing power
