1 When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home.
2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.
3 And they *came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men.
NASB Mk 2:1–3.
When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. 2 Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat.
NLT Mk 2:1–3.
Jesus first preached in the region of Galilee then found J, J, P, A then preached in the synagogue in Capernaum then left the city of Capernaum and went through the region of Galilee preaching there He heals a man with Leprosy. Several days later Jesus returns to Capernaum.
Jesus’ purpose was to preach the time promised by God had come and He is the promised one. He hadn’t come to earth to heal the sick or to do miracles that would amaze His audience, He came for redemptive purposes ultimately to lay down His life for ours.

Paralysis - Paralysis is most often caused by damage in the nervous system, especially the spinal cord. Spinal cord severed at least injured resulting in the lack of sensation below the injury.
Perhaps he was born with it. I believe this was the case due to Jesus saying your “sins are forgiven” in vs.5 Some caused by Spina Bifida as a new born Child, we don’t know what caused His paralysis but we do know is that he suffered from it.
Complications of having paralysis besides the inability to move or feel your limbs attached to you are quite serious
Loss of body temperature control, you can’t sweat Friday high 96.8 degrees
Loss of bladder function
Loss of bowel functions – infections caused by sitting in your excrement
Cardiovascular challenges
Respiratory challenges
Pain
Depression
Spinal cord injury goes far beyond immobility. Complications stem from the loss of muscle mass, recurring skin breakdowns, infections and compromised cardiovascular and respiratory function. In many cases, living with paralysis means living without the ability to control bladder, bowel, temperature, and sexual function. These secondary complications of paralysis can dramatically affect health and quality of life. Oftentimes, secondary complications of paralysis can be life-threatening. Many people don't know that individuals living with paralysis lose the ability to control functions like bladder or bowel. Some may even believe that not being able to walk is the worst part of paralysis. But secondary complications that impair autonomic functions dramatically affect quality of life and independence, as well as cause tremendous medical challenges like infection and pain.
Source of sickness –
people believed sin – I don’t believe God punished in that way – Ultimately the cause of all sickness is sin
How else could Jesus prove – He had healed him of his sin.

The capacity of the average Capernaum home may have allowed about fifty persons standing close together (the longest span in excavated homes is eighteen feet). Most homes were square with one room this house could possibly have up to 4 rooms if in fact it is Peter’s home. They built the house of limestone covered with a sort of stucco to hold it all together and the walls possibly 8 foot tall. There would be a stair case on the side of the house that lead to the roof and the roof would be constructed of wooden trusses covered with straw mats sealed with hard clay.
Filled with Determination
Purposefulness

Filled with expectation
After they dug the hole they lowered the man down through the hole right in front of Jesus.
Why was they filled with expectation?
Vs. 5 …. Seeing their faith!
Look at the faith!
Faith of the man – he trusted his friends to carry him – trusted his friends would get him to Jesus – Trusted them as they went upstairs – trusted as they lowered him through the roof. Trusted his mat would hold his weight – AS I TRUST THIS CHAIR TO HOLD ME UP!
Faith of the four men – trusted the stairs would hold their weight – the roof hold all of them as they dug through
Faith of the four men – trusted the stairs would hold their weight – the roof hold allof them as they dug through
Ultimately they trusted Jesus!
Illustration: Rone Regency Jewelers – 11 years – 3 to 4 times a year – persistency pays off
We need some friends like that don’t we? Yes! Persistent friends!
We need to be friends like that!
Not saying persistence gets you to heaven (try harder), but persistence pays off in witnessing
2nd Cor. 5:20 – plead you to come to Christ!
Persistence-expectance – don’t stop keep going –
bring them in front of Jesus and you have been faithful to do your job well.
III.The Perfect Man Vs.5-12
And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, Son, your sins are forgiven.” 6 But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?” 8 Immediately Jesus, aware 1in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, “Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts? 9 “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven’; or to say, ‘Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk’? 10 “But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—He *said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home.” 12 And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, We have never seen anything like this.”
