Romans 5:6-11 “Demonstration of Love”
A woman woke up one morning, turned to her husband and said, “Honey, I just had a dream that you bought me a new gold necklace. What do you think it means?” He answered, “I don’t know, but Valentine’s Day is coming soon. Then you’ll know.” A few nights later, she again woke up after having a dream. She said, “This time, I dreamed you gave me a pearl necklace. What do you think it means?” “You’ll know on Valentines’ Day,” he replied. The morning of Valentine’s Day, she again woke up telling him about her dream: “This time I dreamed that you brought me a diamond necklace. What do you think it means?” “Honey, be patient,” he said. “You’ll know tonight.” That evening, the husband came home with a package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, she opened it–and found a book titled The Meaning of Dreams
I love Valentines Day, it is the one day set specifically aside to let your beloved know how much you love them. Today I want to tell you of the greatest demonstration of love the world has ever seen. It is the story of creator/savior giving himself for an unfaithful and rebellious bride.
God Demonstrated His Love For You through The Death of Jesus. 6-8
EXP: God’s love is proven towards wayward and wicked mankind that while still in the wayward and wicked state, Jesus died as a substitute for us! It is a profound thought that Jesus would die for us in this state, He did not die for “good people” nor for “Just People” but for dirty rotten sinners. There was no good in us to call forth such love
Die/Died 4x [apŏthnēskō] Died FOR (in behalf of)A Substitute. Demonstrated – [sunistēmi, soon-is´-tay-mee] = exhibit
ILL: When Lincoln’s body was brought from Washington to Illinois, it passed through Albany (NY) and it was carried through the street. They say a black woman stood upon the curb and lifted her little son as far as she could reach above the heads of the crowd and was heard to say to him, “Take a long look, honey. He died for you.” So, if I could, I would lift up your spirit to see Calvary. Take a long look, He died for you.
APP: Do you know that you are loved? Can you see it? Just look towards Calvary and there is the perfect demonstration of Love!!!!
God Demonstrated His Love For You through The Life of Jesus 9-11
EXP: God’s love has been proven, while justified through His death we are now SAVED from sin’s dominion by the RESURECTED life of Jesus! We have been reconciled and counted as righteous before God and saved from any contact with the wrath of God, either in time or in eternity. If God purchased our reconciliation so dearly, will He ever let us go? If His death had such power to save us, how much more will His life have power to keep us! God demonstrated His love to us by bringing us into the zoe life which Christ has sealing us for always and forever.
God’s love for you is proven through the resurrected Lord Jesus, that by grace through faith you too can have eternal life (John 3:16) and this life is secure in the hands of Jesus (John 10:28).
Think about the great love of eternal life, think of the greatness of eternal life.
ILL: W. B. Hinson, a great preacher of a past generation, spoke from his own experience just before he died. He said, “I remember a year ago when a doctor told me, ‘You have an illness from which you won’t recover.’ I walked out to where I live 5 miles from Portland, Oregon, and I looked across at that mountain that I love. I looked at the river in which I rejoice, and I looked at the trees that are always God’s own poetry to my soul. Then in the evening I looked up into the great sky where God was lighting His lamps, and I said, ‘ I may not see you many more times, but Mountain, I shall be alive when you are gone; and River, I shall be alive when you cease running toward the sea; and Stars, I shall be alive when you have fallen from your sockets in the great down pulling of the material universe!’”
