Review & Overview

1. Previous Study’s Review

Last time we were together we saw how the Lord brought the Children of Israel out of Egypt…  thru the Red Sea… &    conquered the Egyptian army.
Chapter 14 highlighted the power of God and His ability to deliver His people from their enemies, even in the face of insurmountable odds.
We saw how Pharaoh changed his mind and pursued the Israelites with a large army, and the Israelites were trapped, with the Red Sea in front of them and Pharaoh's army behind them.
In this moment of desperation and fear, Moses steps forward and reminds the people of God's promise to deliver them from Egypt and into the Promised Land.
God then intervenes in a miraculous way, parting the Red Sea and allowing the Israelites to escape.
The Egyptians, who were pursuing them, were then swallowed up by the sea, showing the power of God over even the mightiest of armies.
This chapter is a great reminder of God's power and His willingness to deliver us from our enemies, no matter how overwhelming they may seem.
It also highlights the importance of faith and trusting in God, even in the face of fear and uncertainty.

2. Current Study’s Overview

Which brings us to chps.15 and our study for today…
3 things to note in this chapter:
 1. Song from Moses: vs.1-18.
2. Sister of Moses: vs.19-21.
3. Sweet Water for Moses: vs.22-27

1. The Song of Moses Vs. 1-19

The Song of Moses is the 1st song recorded in scripture…   &   it will be sung by the trib. martyrs in Rev.15:
It’s a song of Redemption…    Deliverance…    &     Salvation…
It’s a song of Praise…       Worship…     &     Thanksgiving…
It’s a song that is all about the LORD…     49 times in these 18 verses the LORD is mentioned…

1.1  The Lord is Salvation Vs. 1-2

Vs.1 - Moses starts this song by talking about how the LORD defeated the Egyptians at the Red Sea…

And as a result of that glorious victory he said in vs.2…

Vs.2 - In Ex.14:13 Moses said stand still & see the Salvation of the LORD…  &  the Lord parted the waters and they crossed over on dry land...

So Moses is praising & exalting the Lord…     for    receiving strength & salvation from the Lord…
APPLICATION: This is always a good thing to do...    after the Lord has strengthened us & saved us…  to spend some time praising & exalting Him for all He has done…

1.2  Lord is a Man of War Vs. 3-10

The Bible calls God many things:   Wise, Faithful, Gracious, Merciful, Holy, Righteous, Rock, Shield, Fortress, Deliverer, Defender, Refuge, Light, Love…      He is many things to us.
Here He’s called a Man of War…     because    in vs.7 He sent His wrath on those who deserve it… &    we can look at this in 2 ways:
For Believers Now:   there is always a price to pay for sin… we might get away with it for a while, you are always going to get what you deserve…
Galatians 6:7 NKJV
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
Proverbs 1:31 NKJV
31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies.
But if someone doesn’t get what they deserve now, they will get what they deserve later.
For Unbelievers Later: during the Trib God will be pouring out His Wrath, seal, trumpet, bowl…  & and at the end of the Trib when Christ comes back, He’ll finish the job…
As He judges the nation, Matt.25:32,
starting in Bozrah Isa.63:1-3…
then Jehoshaphat Joel 3:1-3…
then Megiddo Rev.16:16 & Rev.19:11-19…
So you better believe it…   the Lord is a Man of War…

1.3 The Lord is the Redeemer Vs. 11-13

Back in Egypt the Lord redeemed them from death from the 10th plague…
How? by the Blood of the Lamb.
APPLICATION: So too is for us…  we were bound by sin, death & hell…  but  Jesus redeemed us… how  by the shedding of His precious Blood…   the Blood of the Lamb…
1 Peter 1:18–19 NKJV
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Since God has redeemed us…     He is also guiding us…     taking us to His holy habitation…
In other words if Christ has redeemed us, He is also guiding us & taking us to the place He has for us…
So God is in total control…       He knows what He’s doing…       so just go with it…
2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV
7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

1.4  Lord is Faithful Vs. 14-19

So the Lord will be faithful to do what He said He would do… in conquering the people of Philistia ( the Philistines )…  those in Edom & Moab ( east of the Dead Sea )…  &  in Canaan ( west of the Jordan )…
And subsequently bringing the Children of Israel into the Promised Land…
Now the Lord will do this…    but     it will be in His time & in His way…    I hate that…
APPLICATION: So too it is with us…   because   the Lord is Faithful and He will do what He said He will do…
One important thing to remember about the Lord faithfulness is that it is not dependent upon us… don’t’ misunderstand…    I think we should always be faithful to the Lord…
But God is faithful in spite of us not because of us…
2 Timothy 2:13 NKJV
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.
And that is attribute of God always being faithful regardless of us is seen in His creation.
Romans 1:20 NKJV
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
Here are some things that will be faithful and are not dependent on humans:
Natural laws: The laws of physics, such as gravity, will always work and are not dependent on humans.
Mathematical principles: Mathematical principles, such as addition, subtraction, and the Pythagorean theorem, will always hold true and are not dependent on humans.
Solar system: The orbits and movements of the planets in our solar system are determined by the laws of gravity and will continue regardless of human presence or absence.
Ecosystems: Natural ecosystems, such as forests and oceans, will continue to function even if humans are not there to observe or interact with them.
Geological processes: Earth's geological processes, such as erosion, earthquakes, and volcanic activity, will continue regardless of human intervention.

2. The Sister of Moses Vs. 20-21

Miriam was the sister of Aaron & Moses…       &      the 1st women to be called a prophetess…
In Acts 21:9 Philip the evangelist had 4 daughters who prophesied…
Acts 21:9 NKJV
9 Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied.
Through out the scriptures we see women playing a huge role in the Kingdom of God…
In fact it was Jesus who liberated women from the role of less importance to one of great importance…
In the ancient culture woman were considered 2nd class citizens and were not allowed to be educated.
in Micah 6:4 Miriam played a part in delivering the Children of Israel with Moses… she was used mightily by God…
Micah 6:4 NKJV
4 For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, I redeemed you from the house of bondage; And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
and that should be a great encouragement to all you girls.
In addition to that Miriam could:   sing…   dance…   &   play an instrument…  dang girl.

3. Sweet Water for Moses vs.22-27

3.1The Fickleness of People Vs. 22-24

so after 3 short days:    their song of praise to God…   turns  into murmuring and complaining against Moses…
They forgot all about the great things the Lord did for them and focused on their immediate situation…
APPLICATION: I venture to say all of us can look back in our lives and see the mighty hand of the Lord delivering, providing, restoring, healing…   yet we focus on what’s right in front of us and forget to look back…
And we begin to murmur & grumble…     rather than remember all that the Lord has done…
ILLUSTRATION: In Matthew 16, Peter was a close friend and a disciple of Jesus. He was so confident in his faith that he declared he would never abandon Jesus, even if all the others did.
However, when Jesus was arrested and taken to trial, in Matthew 26, Peter was afraid for his own safety and denied three times that he even knew Jesus.
After Jesus' death and resurrection, Jesus restored Peter and commissioned him to be a leader in the early church.
APPLICATION: But, this story shows us how quickly and easily even someone with strong convictions like Peter can be swayed by fear and uncertainty.
This story reminds us to be cautious of our own fickleness, and to guard our hearts and minds so that we do not fall away when difficulties arise. We must stand firm in our faith, knowing that God is always faithful, even when we are not.
ILLUSTRATION: We need to understand that just as the wind can shift and change direction quickly, people's opinions and feelings can change just as rapidly.
One moment, someone may be supportive and enthusiastic about a particular idea or cause, but with the slightest shift in circumstances, their enthusiasm can wane and they can change their mind.
This is why it's important to not put our complete trust in people. We shouldn’t build our foundations on the shifting sands of public opinion, but instead on the rock-solid foundation of our beliefs and values.
APPLICATION: In the same way, we must be steadfast in our faith, anchoring ourselves to the unchanging truth of God's word, and not allowing ourselves to be swayed by the winds of popular opinion or cultural pressure.

3.2 Seek The Lord First Vs.25-27

Moses did the right thing in a tough situation, he cried out to the Lord…  he prayed to the Lord.
And the Lord answered his prayer…    by providing for all their needs…    water & food…
In spite of their grumbling & their murmuring…     the Lord blessed them & provided for them
APPLICATION: When we experience difficult times…    first & foremost seek the Lord…   cry out to the Lord…
Because the Lord is faithful…  &
Philippians 4:19 NKJV
19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Psalm 37:25 NKJV
25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.
So look to Jesus, stay focused Jesus…  not the situation we’re in…
Hebrews 12:2 NKJV
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
