Stronger together (Part 17)

Humor
The Final Judgment, Pet Division
A rottweiler, a chihuahua, and a cat all die and appear before the Judgment Seat of Heaven. God asks the rottweiler, "Why should you get into Heaven?" The rottweiler says, "I protected my family for years, and died saving them from a crazed killer." God says, "Well done, boy. Come sit at my right hand. How about you, Mr. Snuffles?" The chihuahua says "I didn't die heroically, but I did provide love and comfort to an elderly lady in her last years." "Good enough. Come sit on my left." God turns to the cat. "How about you? Why should you get into Heaven?" The cat looks up and calmly says, "because you're in my chair."
People are too judgmental nowadays.
I can tell just by looking at them.
Today I would expand on the subject of Do not Judge one another.
Judging people is one of the most destructive ways to inhibit relationships.
Many religious people use judgement as their primary weapon of choice.
But what does it mean to Judge?
We all know about judges and how they operate. They enforce the laws of the land and when they discover someone who has violated that law. They pass out the penalty for the offense.
But is that the biblical defininition of Judement.
def. the notion of judging means settling a dispute, making things right. Inasmuch as one of the disputants was right and the other wrong, to judge came to mean to help a man obtain his rights
The Biblical concept of judgment, however, can be clearly understood only in relation to the idea of justice, for it was the primary duty of a judge "to do justice"
For simplicity we will use the definition of Biblical judging “to make right”
When a person we love in caught in a trespass, and you know that results will only do them harm. the Loving thing is to lend aid so they no longer are caught in the trespass
I find it very interesting that many people who have never read the Bible still know that it says “Do not Judge”
It often is the 1st line of defense for beleivers who are comfronted with a when they are doing something they know they shouldn’t be doing.
Don’t judge Me!
But is that what the Bible is actually saying?

1 Don’t Judge someone for doing somthing your are doing yourself

Jesus said in Matthew chapter 7
Matthew 7:1–5 NASB95
1 “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 “For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 “Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
If you only read the first half of the first verse
Do Not Judge. You may come to the understanding that we should never Judge.
But in context is that what Jesus is saying?
Not really.
The emphasis is on not being a hypocrite .
Instead we should be dealing with the sin in our own life before we think to help others with their sin!
Take the log out of your own eye before removing the speck from your brothers eye.
The principle Jesus is laying down, is to improve yourself before you think of improving others.
Yes we should still be there to help our brother pull the speck out, but it should done out of a motivation of Love rather than belittlement.
The way judment is often misused today is to put someone down so you feel better about yourself.
instead it should be used to lift the other up!
The Apostle Paul reiterated this teaching in the letter to the Church in Rome
Romans 2:1–3 NASB95
1 Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. 3 But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?
We can’t ignore our own issues when calling someone out in their issues

2. Do not judge those outside the church

1 Corinthians 5:12–13 NASB95
12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? 13 But those who are outside, God judges. Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.
Romans 14:4 NASB95
4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
Judge according to the flesh
Jesus said in John chapter 8 when speaking to the religious leaders
John 8:15–16 (NASB95)
15 “You judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone.
16 “But even if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone in it, but I and the Father who sent Me.
Its clear we are not to stand in judgement of those outside the church. Their God’s responsibilty
but

3. We are to judge ourselves

1 Corinthians 11:27–31 NASB95
27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.
Galatians 6:4 NASB95
4 But each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another.

4. We are to judge those inside the church

It’s not wrong to lovingly help our brother remove a harmful speck from his eye.
It’s wrong to self-righteously point out a speck in our brother’s eye when we ignore, as no big deal, the ridiculous log protruding from our own.
Paul confronts Peter
Galatians 2:11–14 NASB95
11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of certain men from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof, fearing the party of the circumcision. 13 The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?
Christians using secular courts to settle disputes
1 Corinthians 6:2–3 NASB95
2 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?
If a person will not repent of their sin we are to remove them from the church
1 Corinthians 5:11–13 NASB95
11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one. 12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? 13 But those who are outside, God judges. Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.
The purpose of Judgement is to make right
to restore
James 5:19–20 NASB95
19 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
Galatians 6:1–2 NASB95
1 Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

5. Jesus is the righteous Judge

Judgement belongs to God
Romans 14:10 NASB95
10 But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.
Jesus takes judgment very seriously.
He is the righteous judge
2 Timothy 4:8 NASB95
8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
who is full of grace and truth
John 1:14 NASB95
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
He does not judge by appearances, but judges with right judgment
John 7:24 NASB95
24 “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
Every judgment he pronounces issues from his core loving nature
1 John 4:8 NASB95
8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
Holy Spirit operated judgement to bring about salvation
John 16:8–9 NASB95
8 “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;

6. What about those who are in the process

Discipleship is a process
it doesn’t happen overnight
We love people so they can belong
their belonging will help them believe
which will aid Holy Spirit to corrrect and transform them
Conclusion
Current Judgement is not about condemnation
John 3:17 NASB95
17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
True Biblical judgment is about making things right.
When the time is up and people do not repent The judgment will come
Hebrews 9:27 NASB95
27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,
Revelation 20:11–15 NASB95
11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
2 Corinthians 5:10 NASB95
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
