Heart Check
Before we talk about loving the world, we need to understand that we were condemned in sin and deserve hell.
We are so blessed that God looked on us with love and Jesus died to give us life.
This is that attitude He wants us to have for those who are still in their sin.
****
We can see in these scriptures that God’s response to our sinful state is not to condemn us further to hell, but to make a way for us to have redemption to God through Jesus Christ.
***
The example Pastor Adriana used last week is one we need so I will repeat it today.
Those without Jesus are captive by their sin and do not understand the good news of Jesus
They are in the dark and do not understand the things that are happening spiritually.
You and I, as Christians should understand that we are not fighting a physical fight but a spiritual one Eph 6:12.
Let’s use an example of a person who was blind from birth.
They had never seen anything their whole life.
How do you describe a sunrise to them?
How do you describe red or blue
These concepts are foreign to them because they do not have the ability to understand them.
If you were paying attention from the beginning, you know that we were all blind from birth.
But someone loved you enough to shared the good news of Jesus with you.
You confessed your sin to God and asked Him to forgive your sin.
You made Jesus the king of your life, and now you live for His glory.
??What does this have to do with Love??
If you remember last week, we talked about three avenues of love that happen in order.
We love God.
This is where everything begins.
Our love for God and our understanding of His love for us is the foundation of how we love.
If we do not understand the love of God and love Him rightly, the rest will be deformed and perverted.
This is the reason why the world does not understand love because they do not understand the source of love - God.
We must seek to understand the heart of God and His love for us to truly know His love.
We love each other (Christians)
The Bible says the world will know we are His disciples by how we love each other.
This is where our reputation in the world has been tarnished.
We are often not loving toward each other.
The world must know that we genuinely love each other.
This includes those in other churches who also truly love God.
We love everyone!
Only when we love God rightly and each other abundantly, can we love those in the world the way He does.
Do you understand the heart of God?
Think about the prodigal son parable Jesus gave in Luke 15:11-32.
When the prodigal son spent all the inheritance money, and came home to seek forgiveness from the father, his older brother was angry.
The father loved the older son too, and went out to find him at the party.
The father explained to the son the love he had for the younger brother.
The father wanted the older brother to understand his heart for the one who was lost.
God wants to redeem those lost in sin and He wants to do that through you and me.
It must begin by how we love.
Love does not lie
Love does not lie
Love does not compromise
Love does not lessen the truth to make the lie feel better
Love is not the doctor injecting poison into himself to make the sick feel better.
Love seeks healing for the sick
Love seeks truth in the midst of the lies
Love cries out to the lost with the good news that Jesus loves us so much that He died on the cross for us
God did not lower the standard of heaven so we could make it with our sin,
God made a way to remove the consequence of our sin through Jesus so we could be in heaven with Him.
The challenge
So, my challenge to you - is that you
That you would let that love motivate you to share the good news of Jesus with those around you.
Let’s pray.
