Matt 6:9-13 “9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
**slide - The 5 P’s in the Lords Prayer.
Title: The Prayer of Surrender (or submission or surrender)
This is the final part - vs 10.
Matt 6:10 “10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
the great battle of surrender
There is a GREAT tussle in a mans life.
its the battle of HIS will.
What is the WILL?
“one’s own volition or desire.
Also: Volition; Will of Man; Willing; Willingness”
Man’s WILL: Is the “way he wants to GO” in his life… across the broad spectrum of his life.
My MIND, WILL and EMOTIONS make up the SOUL.
But GOD ALSO HAS a WILL.. a DIRECTION that matters TO HIM FOR YOU:
There is a FEATURE in the LORDS PRAYER THAT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE PRAY DAILY
THE PRAYER OF SURRENDER, OR SUBMISSION - YIELDING OUR WILL TO GOD’s.
Jesus thinks its very important to daily surrender our WILL to God.
There is something here for us to study & grab a hold of TODAY - The issue of the WILL & SURRENDER:
A few verses.....
Phil 2:12-14 “12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing,”
Rev 4:11 “11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.””
You can, while you are here on earth determine what to do with your soul.
its your WILLINGNESS to Surrender at the moment of Salvation that moves you.
What you WILL TO DO.
There is something about the TURNING over of OUR WILL to GOD - that begins a process of letting go.... & taking UP.
.... and what happens is we (can) become excited about Gods will instead of OUR OWN
in fact it seems as though the men and women of the bible that have this revelation seem to be overcome with Joy to be about GODS will and not their own:
Psalm 40:8 “8 I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.””
WE CAN GIVE OUR WILL OVER TO GOD.
(or not).
NOT ONLY CAN WE GIVE UP OUR WILL… BUT WE CAN ALSO THEN GET EXCITED ABOUT GODS WILL.
Phil 2:13 “13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
SO THE PRAYER OF SURRENDER, IS THE REALLY THE PRAYER OF WILFULLY GIVING OVER OF MY HEARTS DESIRES TO GODS.
THSI SHOULD REALLY BE CALLED.. THE DAILY PRAYER OF GIVING IN.
OR GIVING OVER,. of the WILL.
To HIS WILL.
Matt 6:10 “10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Write this down: HIS WILL IS BETTER THAN MY WILL.
(any day)
“Give your life to God, He can do a much beter job with it that you can” - rev Billy Graham.
WHY WILL BE DONE.
three points about prayer and surrender: Here we go
1.When I pray, I remind myself of who’s I am.
(identity).
“Your kingcom come”
Our Father.
Hallowed be your name
Your Kingdom come.
Your KINGDOM - NOT MY KINGDOM>
a A KING IS A RULER OF A KINGDOM
AND A KING HAS SUBJECTS.
Or People that LIVE UNDER HIS RULING AUTHORITY.
the OWNER of MY WILL.
IS NO LONGER ME
(how much would this settle so many things that get debated and disputed in our lives:
I don’t want to do this job anymore.
But thats not your choice -
I dont want to wait til i get married to sleep with that person - But its HIS Kingdom.
and You’ve tuurned your will over to him… so who really decides this?
I dont want to be in this marriage anymore.
But who said you ever had the choice, its
WHEN I PRAY., I AM REMINDING MYSELF OF WHOS KINGDOM IT IS THATS COMING, AND WHO I AM IN RELATION TO THAT KING>
JESUS - is The PERSON WHO IS IN CHARGE.
Do you know - that HE’s THE ONE IN CHARGE?
Let me show you a verse that will serve as a big reminder to all of us:
Revelation 11:15–19 (ESV)
15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”
16
Write this down: The PRIORITY of my life, is that i serve the one i’ve surrendered to!
Nothing is greater than this & why its important we remind ourselves in prayer every day of the daily sureendering of our WILL to HIM.
Who is HE
The shepherd, the keeper of my soul.
THAT I HAVE GIVEN UP MY WILL.
and NOW I LIVE TO DO HIS WILL.
This changes how we think, how we behave, how we respond.... HOW WE LIVE.
This ANSWERS SO MANY QUESTIONS FOR ME / and it should for you too… It should provide some very overarching clarification to many things...
How i live (to give him Glory)
How i speak (to Reflect his nature in my own words)
How i treat people?
(Forgving people and showing grace)
How i treat my own body?
1 Thess 4:3 “3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;”
When we pray, we remind ourselesve of who;s we are.
To describe the identity of a christian = the apostle paul used the term bondservant or servant....
titus 1:1 “1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness,”
Philemon 1:1 “1 Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved fellow worker”
Romans 1:1 (NKJV)
1 Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God
What Paul was teaching the church is what the church needs to be taught today: you no longer have the right to decide whats best for you - that decision is now Gods.
Your life., The entirety of IT - now rests in HIS hans.
and if we are not careful - we can become our own masters once again - and paul called that going back into the captivity of our old lives - ur in other words - to be UTTERLY MISERABLE again.
A DAILY PRAYER OF SURRENDER RE-SETS THE COMPASS OF MY CONSCIOUSNESS BACK TO WHO’s - I - AM!
and i want to submit today that is a GOOD thing.
I want to wake up and find our what Gods put on y jobsheet.
whats the master for for us today!
thats teh spriit of a bondservant, what does the MASTER WANT YOU TO DO TODAY.
THATS WHY WE PRAY!
