The Bible does not tell us that life will always be easy, but constantly warns us that there will be difficult times. It does not say that God will keep you from danger, but rather it describes that when we feel like we are walking through a dark valley, a valley of the shadow of death, that God is with us. God is there to comfort us and sustain us.
What we need to understand is that for something to have a shadow light must be shined upon it. Christ is our light. It is not the Valley of Death, but the Valley of the Shadow of Death.
And we must also understand is that a valley never goes on forever. The Bible promises that there will come a day when God will make all things right. There will come a day when there we be no more death or pain or crying or sorrow. There will come a day when like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden we shall live in the presence of God.
In the 23rd Psalm David described life in God this way.
1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. (Psalm 23)
This is possible through Christ. This is possible for those who live with faith in Christ. My prayer is that you know Jesus, his forgiveness, and his presence even as Marie did.
