Intro:
This morning we are going to begin a three part series entitled Faith Foundations. Over the next few weeks we are going to look at three foundational elements of Faith in Christ; Salvation, Justification, and Sanctification.
Today we are going to begin with a core message of the bible which is Salvation. Let’s start with a base definition of Salvation: is the rescue from a state of danger and restoration to wholeness and prosperity. In the Bible people are “saved” from foreign nations, from enemies, and from the penalty of sin. Salvation also entails health, wholeness, and victory. (Slide 2)
To understand the context of salvation we must look to the beginning.
In Genesis 1 we see the creation of man in the image of God. Mankind was created as a perfect eternal being without sin. We were designed to live in close relationship with God co-laboring over His creation.
Man was created with free will, fully able to choose to live in obedience or rebellion against God. Man was given instruction in Genesis 2:15-17 not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good evil or they would surely die. Genesis 3 (Temptation).
In Genesis 3 Eve is tempted in the Garden of Eden by the Serpent. She eats fruit from the forbidden tree, and also gives to Adam and he eats. This action of rebellion and disobedience caused death and sin to enter into the world.
Death and sin brought separation from God and released a spirit of fear. (Slide 3)
(slide 4) Romans 5:12-14 says, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—(For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.”
Separation through sin reveals the fundamental need for salvation. God is a holy God. Sin can’t be in His presence so He set in motion a plan for salvation. The theme of Salvation is seen throughout the old and new testaments. Salvation is somewhat of a progressive revelation beginning with the physical rescue of a people and nation from danger or crisis. Leading ultimately to the understanding of spiritual rescue from sin and death through Christ.

Salvation is demonstrated many times throughout the Old Testament, but probably the most prominent example of the progressive revelation of Salvation is seen in the Exodus of the children of Israel. Israel for a little over 400 years was in slavery to Egypt. What began as favor with Pharoah under the leadership of Joseph turned to oppression.
A Pharoah arose that did not know Joseph or the good he had done for the nation. This caused the children of Israel to be put in bondage because he believed the Israelites were bigger and stronger than Egypt. (Slide 5)
Exodus 1:11-14 “Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel. So the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor. And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage—in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor.”
The oppression was so great that Pharoah had instructed the Hebrew midwives to kill all the mail children born. The midwives feared God and would not do as they were commanded and so God multiplied and provided for them.
(Slide 6) Exodus 2:23-25 “Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage. So God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged them.”
Without recounting the whole story there comes a moment when they are surrounded on every side. The read sea before them, mountains on either side, and the Egyptian army behind them.
The people were afraid but Moses spoke this to the people. (Slide 7) Exodus 14:13 “And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.”
In this story we see one of the many instances of God’s Salvation in the old testament. (Slide 8) God’s ability to save was revealed by his great works in the past which then promoted the anticipation of his work of deliverance in the future. Exodus 1:11-14. Exodus 2:23-25. Exodus 14:13.
The prophets like Isaiah, Ezekiel, Zephaniah, and Zachariah prophesied of a future savior who would come. There was great anticipation for the savior of the world. As we shift to the new testament I want to show you something cool about Salvation.

Apply:
(Slide 9) The Hebrew word for salvation is (yesu-a) Yeshua which means salvation, deliverance, victory, help, and welfare. The greek word is iesous (ee-ay-sooce). Which means Jesus = Jehovah is Salvation. Matthew 1:21. (Slide 10)
Matthew 1:21 “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus (Yeshua), for He will save His people from their sins.”” Hebrew name Yeshua prophesying salvation, deliverance, victory, and help! The greek iesous declaring Jehovah is Salvation!
His name prophetically declared His mission and purpose!!
God is a God of salvation! (Slide 11) He has come to bring salvation, deliverance, and victory to you and I! John 3:16-17.
(Slide 12) John 3:16-17 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
When you look at the Gospels you see people need deliverance from sin , sickness, deformity, demonic possession, the power of wealth, the constant and pervasive domination of evil or the evil one.
Salvation is of God and cannot be earned by works. (SLide 13)
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (SLide 14)
Romans 10:13 “For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”” (Slide 15)
Jesus is the source of our Salvation. ( Slide 16)
2 Timothy 2:10 “Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.” (Slide 17)
Hebrews 5:9 “And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,” (slide 18)
The message of Salvation is contained in the scriptures. (SLide 19).
2 Timothy 3:15 “and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” (slide 20)
Romans 1:16-17 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”” (Slide 21)
Salvation is carried by those who proclaim the word of truth. (slide 22)
Ephesians 1:13 “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,” (slide 23)
Romans 10:14-15 “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”” (Slide 24)

Closing:
What is the correct response to the message of Salvation? (Slide 25)
1. Repentance.(SLide 26)
2 Cor 7:10 “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.” (slide 27)
2. Faith. (Slide 28)
2 Timothy 3:14-15 “But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” (slide 29)
1 Peter 1:3-9 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.” (Slide 30-31)
3. Proclaim. (Slide 32)
Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” (Slide 33)
Acts 4:12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”” (Slide 34)
Jesus has come to set the captives free! Today I believe if you will call upon His name he will set you free!
Let’s Pray!
