Us Is More Than Them

Introduction

2 Kings 6:8-19

2 Kings 6:16 NASB95

So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

HISTORICAL SETTING

King during this time was Jehoram

The audience is in exile

They have to sit and consider what brought them to their demise

From being brought out of Egypt to go down into Babylon

The purpose of KINGS is to display God to a people that need hope.

HOPE today, is only found in Jesus!

THE HISTORICAL NARRATIVE

#1 The king of Aram is plotting

The enemy is plotting and planning to fight against God’s people

But every plan he makes, is thwarted by the man of God

He’s making plans against ISRAEL. . .but notice how he changes strategy to the prohpet.

APPL. We have an enemy that’s plotting today, but He can’t win against God.

Ideologies: Individualism, Racism, Nationalism, Inclusivity etc.

#2 There is a man of God down there

They said we are trying to get after them, but there’s something going on down there. God is in that place

Somewhere along the line the world must know there are people of God in that place.

They are trying to get after us, but WE HAVE GOD. . .therefore the US is more than THEM.

They thought might, surprise and cutting off supplies would be enough to stop God’s man. . .they were wrong!!!

APPL. Men are arrogant and are challenging God like the Aramean king. . .let them know God is down here. US is more than THEM.

#3 Early in the morning

2 Kings 6:15 “Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?””

Elsiha was not concern about the army

In fact, if he knew off the previous plans, he would’ve know about this one

Elisha was NOT seeing by sight

The army surrounded the city, but God surrounded the army [City of Dothan on a relatively flat plain flanked by mountains]

APPL. If you feel like your situation is closing in on you, REMEMBER GOD is closing in on your situation.

This is what we have in Christ today

John 16:33 ““These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.””

Rom 8:31 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?”

Rom 8:37 “But in all these things [distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, sword] we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.”

1 Jn 4:4 “You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.”

“The Us is more than the Them” - Do you believe this?

A Life without Christ is a disadvantage

1 Jn 5:4 “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”
