1 Timothy 2:1 ESV
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
“First of all then” - Book about the Local Church - Turns from the negative statements against false teachers and the unTruth, to positive statements about what the church should be about and focusing on.

Prayer for All

HIGH VIEW OF PRAYER
CONVINCED IT IS AFFECTING THINGS
Colossians 4:2 ESV
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
Romans 12:12 ESV
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Ephesians 6:18 ESV
praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV
pray without ceasing,
Philippians 4:6 ESV
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Colossians 1:9 ESV
And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
James 1:5 ESV
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Jesus Christ taught his disciples to pray, healed people with prayers, denounced the corruption of the temple worship which he called a house of prayer, and insisted that some demons could be cast out only through prayer. He prayed often and regularly with fervent cries and tears, and sometimes all night. The Holy Spirit came upon him and anointed him as he was praying, and he was transfigured with the divine flory as he prayed. When he faced his greatest crisis, he did so with prayer. We hear him praying for his disciples and the church on the night before he died and then petitioning God in agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. Finally, he died praying.
Wayne talked about last week
James 4:2 ESV
You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.
Matthew 7:7–11 ESV
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
James 5:16 ESV
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
There are warnings in the NT about sin that will hinder your prayers. Prayer is a powerful tool that you have! More powerful than you know. It is the place where you most clearly enter into the other world.
Prayer is
Relationship with your Father
Properly Orienting Yourself in front of God
Asking your Father to Give to you if He so desires
If you don’t pray, you may not receive because you didn’t pray. If you do pray, and you don’t get it, then you know that God decided it was best for you not to get a Yes.
God answers prayer the way that you would answer it if you knew all that He knows.

Pray in Response to the Word
Buy a Book of Prayers and Read them, not less holy or good
It will not be delight at first or always, itll be difficult, the consensus of the best praying men in the church has always been, as JI Packer said - Duty to Delight - Set an alarm on your phone, force yourself, that is ok and good and pleasing to God.
Pray.

Proper Respect of Authority

1 Timothy 2:2–3 ESV
for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
Prayer for Authorities
The Christian’s responsibility to the government in scripture is not a grey area
Romans 13:1–2 ESV
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
1 Peter 2:13–17 ESV
Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
Psalm 22:28 ESV
For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.
Not if particular law Subverts God
Acts 4:19 ESV
But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge,
The Christian answer to an unjust government isn’t political revolution, it is Prayer.
Titus 3:1–2 ESV
Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.
Does that sound like revolution?
Does the way you talk about the authorities, president for instance, or your posts, reflect that sort of attitude toward the authorities that God has placed in your life. How about your boss? Your teacher? Your coach? Your parents? ALL AUTHORITY

For Evangelism

See the line of thought here, I didnt post a slide so you’d look down and see the whole passage (If you dont have a Bible. . . )
1 Timothy 2:4–7 ESV
who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Pray for ALL PEOPLE, because God desires ALL PEOPLE to be saved
Who desires all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth, is that just some side phrase, no it is central to the reason for praying.
Prayer for Authorities SO THAT others may know Christ
The assumption is, if we have peace, we will be striving to evangelize others.
Evangelism just means Gospelism - The word Gospel is just the English translation of the Greek Word εὐαγγέλιον
1 Tim 2:4
1 Timothy 2:4 ESV
who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
What truth?
1 Timothy 2:5–6 ESV
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
It is likely that we have hit on 2, maybe 3 areas this morning where you find yourself sorely lacking - Prayer, Response to Authorities, maybe chiefly Evangelism.
Reasons dont evangelize
Dont really believe in the power of the Gospel
Romans 1:16 ESV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
You arent lost if you dont evangelize, but you are holding food while the beggar goes hungry. You are holding the key while the chained are drug by. You have been fed, you have been set free, you have found the meaning of life!
Yes, you can do a lot by living a life that is obviously different, but that person watching you will never come to an understanding of the Gospel that we just discussed unless you speak of it, or bring them to church.
If you dont want to do the talking yourself, ask if theyd be willing to talk to me. I am here for you.
Matthew 9:37–38 ESV
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
The Central Message of this section is Prayer - Pray for all people, Pray for Authorities, Pray for Souls to be Saved!
Finish with a prayer for the Harvest
