Introduction

1 Peter 1:2–5 KJV 1900
2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
This is week number four that we’ve been in these verses, preaching through each one of them on the subject of “This Amazing Salvation”
We began with the “This Amazing Salvation is a Provided Salvation”
God had no obligation to give us salvation…We did nothing to earn it, nothing to deserve it! If God hadn’t loved us first, we would still be on our way to Hell with no hope in sight.
James M. Gray penned it well in the old hymn “Only a Sinner.”
Naught have I gotten but what I received; Grace hath bestowed it since I have believed;
Boasting excluded, pride I abase; I'm only a sinner saved by grace!
Once I was foolish, and sin ruled my heart, Causing my footsteps from God to depart;
Jesus hath found me, happy my case; I now am a sinner saved by grace!
Tears unavailing, no merit had I; Mercy had saved me, or else I must die;
Sin had alarmed me, fearing God's face; But now I'm a sinner saved by grace!
Only a sinner saved by grace! Only a sinner saved by grace!
This is my story, to God be the glory - I'm only a sinner saved by grace!
We then looked at “This Amazing Salvation is a Prompted Salvation”
Salvation indicates there is something you are being saved from…That would be sin...
Because sin entered into the world, we needed to be saved from it and God’s wrath because of it. Salvation was prompted…And to really understand the depth of God’s love, we must understand just how much He hates sin.
The positive is only positive because the negative is negative!
So we looked at all that, then last week, we looked at “This Amazing Salvation is a Permanent Salvation”
Everything on this earth is temporary…it’s going to all burn up one of these days. The things of this world are passing away.
The great missionary C.T. Studd said, “Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.”
Nothing of this world is going to stay, but God has provided a possession that is permanent!
Tonight, we are concluding this series within a series…I say that because the larger series we are in is called “Through the Fire” which is a study of the book of 1 Peter, but let tell you something, you want to know what will help you get through the tribulation and trials of this life? Understanding the so great salvation, so amazing salvation, that God has given us, so let’s look at “This Amazing Salvation is a Protected Salvation.”
Protection is something extremely important to us…We buy insurance to protect us from financial disaster in sickness.
We buy products to secure our homes, vehicles, identities, and lives.
Often, when buying certain products, we will purchase an extended warranty. (Bro. Neal is loving the fact that he bought an extended warranty on his vehicle right now…)
Listen though, when you trust in Christ as Savior, the extended warranty is already included, it doesn’t cost anything extra…It’s not good for 5 years or 10 years, but honey it’s good forever! We don’t even need an extended warranty on salvation, because it will never fail! There will never be a time when it breaks down, or goes bad!
It’s a permanent salvation! It’s good forever!
Look at 1 Peter 1:5 with me...
1 Peter 1:5 (KJV 1900)
5 Who are kept by the power of God...

God skillfully keeps His people.

When you consider that God has the power to save you, then it should be any stretch of the imagination that it God can keep you!
Peter gives a word of consolation and inspiration to saints that are facing or going to face intense times of persecution because of their faith.
Peter lets the saints know that they are secure in Christ Jesus. In verse 5 we learn about the protection of God concerning our eternal salvation.
We learn in this verse that Christian’s are kept by the power of God. We are not kept by our faithfulness, our determination, our resolve, our works, our giving, or our serving!
F.B. Meyer wrote, “To have been told, as in the preceding verse, that our inheritance was reserved in heaven could have yielded us little comfort, unless that assurance had been followed and capped by this, that the heirs also are being kept for its full enjoyment.”
The salvation that God gives is guaranteed.
We need to get this in our hearts and minds that there is not a time that God is not guarding our salvation. He never slumbers or sleeps and He will not neglect what He has guaranteed to us. The devil and all the demons cannot get what God is keeping.
2 Timothy 4:18 KJV 1900
18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Paul wrote this as he faced his last moments of this life and he was, by many accounts, penniless, friendless, without valuable possessions, cold, without adequate clothing, and destined for a soon death. Yet, especially knowing the heavenly reward waiting for him, he would not trade his place with anyone.
2 Timothy 4:16 (KJV 1900)
16 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me...
In the deepest, darkest trials of Paul’s life, Jesus stood by him and Paul served God faithfully!
2 Timothy 1:12 KJV 1900
12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
What do these verses have in common? We are kept by the power of God!
It is the power of God that created the heaven and earth. It is the power of God that raised Jesus from the dead, and it is the power of God that will keep His saints.
There is nothing better than that! Certainly, God has the power to save us, and He has the power to keep us!
Not only does God skillfully keep His people, but...
Notice with me, the remaining part of 1 Peter 1:5...
1 Peter 1:5 (KJV 1900)
5 …through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

God successfully keeps His promises.

God doesn’t lie - you can count on everything He says to be true!
There’s no fine print - no hidden conditions.
We can take His Word at face value and know that every promise He makes to us will come to pass!
Numbers 23:19 KJV 1900
19 God is not a man, that he should lie; Neither the son of man, that he should repent: Hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
· God is not a man, and can’t be bribed or impressed with riches.
· God does not lie, and He does not change His mind as man does.
· God always performs His word. If God has spoken, He will perform it.
· God has all strength, and has the power to perform what He promises – He will make it good.
When a person trusts in the Lord Jesus they are born again.
Romans 10:9 KJV 1900
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
We receive salvation free when we place our faith in the Lord Jesus and His finished work.
As saints we begin a journey with the Lord growing in His likeness through testing and trials, through persecution and pain.
We are saved by faith, but our salvation is not fully comprehended by us on this side of glory.
We have been delivered from the penalty of sin and the power of sin, but we have not yet been delivered from the presence of sin.
Peter reminds the believers that they have a reserved inheritance in heaven that is kept by the power of God and that will, in the last times, be revealed fully at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Conclusion

1 Peter 1:1–5 KJV 1900
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
We have a lot to be thankful for!
It truly is an amazing salvation!
It’s amazing because it’s provided, it’s prompted, it’s permanent, and it’s protected!
This ought to help us live godly daily and honor Jesus in every way. Do you know this same Jesus that saves and keeps His people saved? The Lord has got all of salvation in His hands!
