Attributes of the Holy Spirit

This is not a message is not designed to be a message on Holy Spirit apologetics
This message will not be an argument or defense for the Holy Spirit (because he doesn’t need to be defended)
The purpose of today’s message is simply to show you WHY YOU NEED HIM
Scriptures to study
Romans 8:26 NKJV
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
By the Holy Spirit we are changed
John 16:7–14 NKJV
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.
The Holy Spirit takes responsibility for changing you
-You will always be in control- until you let go and let the Holy spirit take responsibility
Not out of control as in involuntary (shaking and shouting and running wild)
Self Control
-When you let the Holy Spirit take responsibility for your life, he’ll take you to greater places (glory) than you could ever imagine
-The Holy Spirit gives you the desire and the power to do what pleases God
People want to modify and correct their behavior
2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
The HOLY SPIRIT takes you to places you could have never imagined, faster than you could accomplish on your own
The Holy Spirit Reveals the heart of God
The Holy Spirit gives you an understanding on God’s word
The Holy spirit gives you the spirit of the Law, rather than the letter of the law
The Spirit reveals to you the Heart of the Author(of His Word)
Show me a judgmental Christian:
Doesn’t understand the heart of the Father
Doesn’t Spend time in the Spirit
2 Peter 1:2–4 NKJV
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Galatians 5:18 NKJV
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
2. The Holy Spirit is your Teacher
John 14:26 NKJV
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
If he’s your teacher we have to be students
Notice How Jesus and the Holy Spirit are always in obedience to will of the Father
The Holy Spirit will show you how to act correctly
My kids in a restaurant how they act
Romans 5:5 NKJV
5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
He teaches us how to love his way
3. Your Power
Acts 1:8 NKJV
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Power for what?
To Be witnesses
Luke 4:18 NKJV
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
The Holy Spirit anointed Jesus to be the fulfillment of scripture
God wants to fulfill scripture in you and through you
Mark 6:5 NKJV
5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.
John 14:12 NKJV
12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
Greater works than these
God wants to fulfill scripture in us in a big way
A bigger way than whats written in this book
We have to be a conduit for his power to work through
A continuous flow of the Sprit/Worship in Spirit and in truth
The Holy Spirit resides in us for us and rests on us for others
That boldness it to preach
That power to lay hands on the sick
4. Your comforter
John 14:16 NKJV
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
Advocate=Comforter
Every time it’s used helper it’s interchangeable with comforter
The only thing the enemy can do is counterfeit What God has already created
The world produces synthetic comfort
There’s always emptiness attached to counterfeit comfort
It might seem good right now but there’s bitterness in the end
John 7:37–39 NKJV
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Only the Spirit of God can satiate your thirst and your hunger for the things of this world
Romans 10:9–10 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Dear God, I am a sinner.
I’m sorry for my sin; please forgive me.
I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son
and that He died for my sins
I believe You raised Him back to life.
I want to invite Jesus into my heart
today.
I’m make your Lord of my life
In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
John 20:22 NKJV
22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
