Every Man did that which was right in his own eyes

Deuteronomy 12:8 (KJV)

8 Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes.

Judges 17:6 (KJV)

6 In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Judges 21:25 (KJV)

25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

The time of Judges is perhaps the most misunderstood times in the Bible.

There are some that believe the book of Judges were days of darkness where there were no great men or no men to lead.

Some of the greatest men in the bible lived in the times of Judges. Men such as Gideon, Shamgar, Ehud, and even Samuel.

We think the time of the Judges as when evil men did evil and that simply is not true. They think of it as a time when men chose to do evil and that is not true.

The Bible does not say that every man done that which was sinful in his own eyes. Nor did it say every man did that which was evil in his own eyes.

But it was a time when men chose to do right. A time in many cases they wanted to do right and were committed and sincere in their doing right.

It was a time when men or at least most men tried to do right.

This was no Sodom and Gahmorrah age where men chose to be sodomites and chose to be filthy.

Nor was it a day like Noah's where evil had been the rule to the place where their hearts were filled with wickedness.

The time of Judges was not a time where people people said this is right and this is wrong and we are going to do wrong. No they chose to do right.

This is a time when every man tried to do that which was right. Every man did that which was right.

This is exactly what happened to Eve in the garden of Eden. Satan comes to Eve and does not say I want you to do wrong but he says I want you to do right.

Genesis 3:5 (KJV)

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

But I want you to decide what is right ....

So Eve was trying to do what was right, she was trying to decide what was right.

BUT NO MAN HAS A RIGHT TO DECIDE WHAT IS RIGHT!!!!

The Book (BIBLE) decides what is right.

Satan said to Eve ye shall be as gods....

KNOWING- (which means deciding) what is right and wrong. What is good and what is evil.

You can determine what good and evil is and won't need the help of God.

That is not true....I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT IS EVIL OUTSIDE OF GOD'S WORD.

Sometimes in the bible in the books of Kings and Chronicles there is a certain statement that were made about some kings that were good kings.

It might say from time and time again a certain king in Judah or Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. It did not say he did evil in his own sight.

so all kings were not bad men and in some cases these kings wanted to do right. But they did right in their own eyes but it was evil in the sight of the Lord.

This is what is wrong in America today, This is what is happening in the church today, good people are deciding for themselves what is good and evil, what is right and what is wrong.

ILL. Two people their relationship strained and both say I have done nothing wrong. In other words they have done right in their own eyes. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BOOK??????

i have been accused as a pastor of people coming to me with problems and they say that i somehow turn it around on them where they look wrong. Could it be we come right in our own eyes but when laid by the scripture we are wrong in the sight of God???

Good people have decided that capital punishment (Spanking a child) is wrong. They feel like to not spank is the right thing to do...in their own eyes. But the problem is it was never up for a vote. God said He that spareth the rod hateth the child.

There is a God in Heaven that is perfect and Omniscient that knows whats right and what is wrong. And we need to stop trying to decide and do what God has said for us to do in the book.

In many cases good men and good women with good motives start out to do right but instead of being I read they feel like i am being led.

We cannot improve the bible we can improve ourselves but not the bible. We can preserve the bible. When we start trying to improve we begin to decide on what is right and what is wrong.

But what is right is what was right years ago.

Proverbs 14:12 (KJV)

12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Proverbs 16:25 (KJV)

25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

ILL. H A Ironside pastored Moody bible Church when it ran thousands. He was getting up in years and wanted to preach out more and called his deacons and said i will preach out and take care of the preaching here but you all know how i want things so you guys run the business of the church. Only one problem that is not the way God set it up.

How many leave their church because it is right in their own eyes.

BUT YOU DON'T KNOW MORE THAN GOD DOES.

It becomes the highest form of Idolatry when we decide whats right without consulting the Bible. We are not smart enough.

ILL. When public school said for God to take His book and get out of the schools they were doing what was right in their own eyes. Can we have a bible in school and not let a Koran, or a talmud? thats not right except for onething...Men that founded this country founded in on the principles of this book. And this country was a Christian nation for years and what was in the book determined what was right and what was wrong.

But these were good people that was just doing what they thought was right.

ILL I have heard people decide that if you do good then you will go to Heaven. One problem The Bible says we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God and except we allow the blood of Jesus to cleanse us then we are Hell bound. I didn't decide that He did IN THE BOOK.

Let God be true and every man a liar.

There has to be an authority to tell us what's right? It's not the pope, it's not the church, it is not the pastor or the preacher, not the college of cardinals, but the final authority is this BOOK! God knows what is right and it is in this book.

ILL. Henry Ford came driving up on a ,man that was broke down on the side of the rode. He was driving a Ford and was working on it. Henry Ford the founder of Ford motor co. stopped and said sir can I help you with your car? What could you do for me old man? you think you know more than me just go on. So Henry Ford got back in the car and drove off.

Jesus will come and if we reject Him he will just go on. I need him to help me with what is right and what is wrong.
