The Gift of One Man
The Gift of One Man
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

Peace with God brings No Shame in Hope
Peace with God brings No Shame in Hope
Romans 5:5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.God’s love has been poured outwe have been given undeserving, unmerited love
Boast in Jesus
Boast in Jesus
Romans 5:11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.we can only boast in Jesus
Gift of Grace
Gift of Grace
Romans 5:15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
grace is greater than sin
gift is not like the trespass
our worldly experience - many died means all of mankind
our spiritual experience - gift of Jesus overflows to the many
emphasis is on God’s grace through Jesus Christ
Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
Gift Brought Justification
Gift Brought Justification
God’s gift is completely different to the sin
sin required judgement = condemnation is the only outcome
death is the outcome of this judgement
the gift of God came in spite of the condemnation
gift came after many trespasses
the trespass of the human race is immense - can hardly count them all
the gift completely covered every trespass
Justification
Justification
God is the judge of the Earth and of mankind
his righteousness demands that God deals with sin
righteous judgement means that all who sin are subject to death
to justify means to acquit or to declare righteous
however, there has to be cause to justify for God to maintain his righteousness
that cause is the action of one righteous man, Jesus
God cannot be defeated by sin!
For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
Reign in Life
Reign in Life
God’s judgement arose because of the trespass of one man
hence death reigned through Adam to all generations
only one man Jesus was able to be righteous in all matters of the law
God uses this obedience as a means of justifying all of mankind
man still has to accept the grace and mercy explicit in this justification
acceptance of God’s abundant provision of grace
grace is simply overflowing abundance
Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people.
One Righteous Act
One Righteous Act
Paul spells it out in a simple statement
one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people
one righteous act resulted in life for all people
For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
Many will be Made Righteous
Many will be Made Righteous
the final statement
just as declares the outcome of Adam’s disobedience
because of Adam we were made sinners
so also compares Christ to Adam
Jesus was obedient so many will be made righteous
not by works but by faith we are made righteous
this is the grace we can now access through faith
