1 Peter Emulating the Holiness of God (1:13–16)

1. Be mentally prepared (v. 13a)

Gird up the loins of your mind.....there is an inward resolution to setting your hope on the grace to be revealed.
personal discipline and outward conduct is the imagery Peter is using
sober -be free of every sort of mental and spiritual intoxication....

2. Hope must be centered on Jesus (v. 13b)

your hope completely =nothing deficient in your hope…no casting away of your confidence
grace=perfected…complete...
v2 grace is the source of peace
v10-grace was pointing to Jesus coming to bring salvation
v13b-completed salvation..the 2nd advent of Jesus when He returns and brings us into salvation
ALWAYS READY FOR CHRIST’S COMING=THIS GRACE WILL BE BROUGHT…WHEN?? WE DON’T KNOW WHEN JUST WHO…JESUS

3. Leave behind past lifestyle (v. 14)

don’t conform …KJV not fashioning yourselves according to sin

4. Mirror the holiness of God (vv. 15–16)

become holy in act
to be holy is to be set apart to God. God is to pure to look on evil with favor Habakkuk 1:13, Your eyes are too pure to see evil, and you are not able to look at wrongdoing
this truth should move His people to strive for moral purity

LIVE IN REVERENCE

not terror but wholesome reverence and respect for God which is the basis for all christian life..
Proverbs 1:7 “Fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; wisdom and instruction, fools despise.”
Proverbs 8:13, “The fear of Yahweh is hatred of evil, pride, and arrogance and an evil way. And I hate a mouth of perversity.”
Proverbs 16:6 “By loyalty and faithfulness, iniquity will be covered over, and by fear of Yahweh one turns from evil.”
