Numbers 14:21-24
21 “But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.
22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.”
The passage we just read talk about the people of Israel. They have been in the dessert for approximently 2 years. They were freed from egypt after being salves for 400 years. During the 2 years they have mummured aginat moses and aaron.
They have shown their discontent of being free people, of having ownership over their things, they have shown discontent of being resposible
Although the people were forgiven, they still faced the a severe penalty. Forgiveness does not always remove the consequences of past behavior. The phrase “these ten times” is not meant to convey a specific number of incidents. Rather, it represents a consistent pattern of behavior, and the number ten is frequently associated with judgement.
The attempt by the people to repent and return to what God had commanded was motivated by the message of judgment pronounced against against that generation. the fact that their hearts had not truly changed is demonstrated by their continued pattern of rebellion. They only changed their hearts out of fear of destruction. They did not truly believed that God would deliver the victory for them.
Proverbs 3:11–12 KJV 1900
My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; Neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
11 “My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; Neither be weary of his correction:
12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.”
The Bible offers plenty of examples of chastening, a recurring example being that of God's response to the Israelite people's perpetual disobedience (Numbers 14:21–23; Judges 2:1–5; 2 Kings 18:12). God was patient with the Israelites and sent prophets to speak with them in an effort to motivate them to turn back to God, but when they refused to listen and worshipped idols instead, God chastened them with plagues and attacks from enemies (Jeremiah 40:3). Because He loved them, God could not let the Israelites continue living in ways that would ultimately destroy them (Zechariah 13:9; Isaiah 48:10).
God will speak to our Pastor. He will tell him to preach and teach things behind this pulpit for OUR benefit, not his. He preaches what God gives him to preach. It is up to us to take the council or guidance that is preached and apply it to our lifes. God will send us leaders, teachers, mentors, elders into our lifes to warn us of the things we are doing, to stop playing the spiritual games we are playing. to stop letting sin win in our lives,
to stop being bitter
to stop being angry
to stop messing with tempation
to stop being envy
to stop being jealous
