Genesis 33:1–4 NASB95
1 Then Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two maids. 2 He put the maids and their children in front, and Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last. 3 But he himself passed on ahead of them and bowed down to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. 4 Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
Genesis 33:9–11 NASB95
9 But Esau said, “I have plenty, my brother; let what you have be your own.” 10 Jacob said, “No, please, if now I have found favor in your sight, then take my present from my hand, for I see your face as one sees the face of God, and you have received me favorably. 11 “Please take my gift which has been brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me and because I have plenty.” Thus he urged him and he took it.
I was a fool to ever leave your side
Me minus you is such a lonely ride
The breakup we had has made me lonesome and sad
I realize I love you 'cause I want you bad, hey, hey
I spent the evening with the radio
Regret the moment that I let you go
Our quarrel was such a way of learnin' so much
I know now that I love you 'cause I need your touch, hey, hey
Reunited, and it feels so good
Reunited 'cause we understood
There's one perfect fit
And, sugar, this one is it
We both are so excited 'cause we're reunited, hey, hey
My intent today is to exhort us on how blessed and good it feels to be reunited, and by the example of Esau and Jacob/Israel teach us steps we can also take to be reconciled or reunited with people in our lives.
Be driven by humility
Bowed seven times
Be driven by renewed love
See the urgency of coming together again
Correct what/who you hold on to
Learn how to cover your brother
Let your emotions free
Realize GOD can change a person
As GOD has given me favor, I’m seeking yours - Accept my apology
Reuniting is a shared blessing!!
Beware of pouring your anger into your children
God’s confrontation of Esau’s descendants
Maintained fury forever (Amos 1:11-12)
Harbored an ancient hostility (Ezek 35:5)
Conclusion: It is most important to be reunited with GOD if there’s been any separation. But then, when you really consider your life, your brothers and sisters, who do you need to share a blessing of reuniting with. Don’t let 5, 10, and 20 years go by, being reluctant, because we don’t know if we have that time! What Rebekah expected would be days, led to 20 years!!
