“First of all then” - Book about the Local Church – Next Section Turns from the negative statements against false teachers and the unTruth, to positive statements about what the church should be about and focusing on.
Prayer for All
1 Timothy 2:1
HIGH VIEW OF PRAYER – Every biblical book and writer is absolutely CONVINCED
CONVINCED IT IS AFFECTING THINGS, God has given us, in prayer, one scholar called it, the dignity of Causality
If you read the Bible for the first time, one of the things you would come away utterly convinced of is the absolute necessity and power of prayer. You would come away as a new Christian saying WOW I CANNOT BELIEVE I GET TO DO THIS!
Colossians 4:2James 1:5
Jesus Christ taught his disciples to pray, healed people with prayers, called the temple a house of prayer, and insisted that some demons could be cast out only through prayer. He prayed often and regularly with fervent cries and tears, and sometimes all night. The Holy Spirit came upon him and anointed him as he was praying, and he was transfigured with divine glory as he prayed. When he faced his greatest crisis, he did so with prayer. We hear him praying for his disciples and the church on the night before he died and then petitioning God in prayer agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. Finally, he died praying.
Prayer is the Bible’s answer to lacking wisdom, Prayer is the Bible’s answer to Anxiety and Worry (Noone has ever gotten up from prayer and been more anxious), Prayer is the Bible’s answer for knowing God’s will, Prayer is the Bible’s answer for finding strength, Prayer is the Bible’s answer for a nation in strife – Am I praying
Prayer is one of the GREATEST PRIVILEGES OF BEING A CHRISTIAN.
Prayer is
We talked about in LIFE Group last week, we so fear the prosperity gospel that we are afraid to say that God rejoices to give you good things when you ask.
Wayne talked about last week
James 4:2James 5:16
There are warnings in the NT about sin that will hinder your prayers. That should be a main concern about sin. . . Prayer is a powerful tool that you have! More powerful than you know. It is the place where you most clearly enter into the other world.
Part of your commitment as a member of this church is to pray especially for one another here

It will not be delight at first or always, itll be difficult at times. JI Packer said - Duty to Delight - Set an alarm on your phone, force yourself, that is ok and good and pleasing to God.
Proper Respect of Authority
The Christian’s responsibility to the government and to authorities in scripture is not a grey area
Romans 13:1–2 1 Peter 2:13–17 Psalm 22:28
Prayer for Authorities - No Christian leader existed in the world at this time
“Well that doesn’t mean Biden” OF COURSE IT MEANS BIDEN!
The Christian answer to an unjust government isn’t political revolution, it is Prayer.
Titus 3:1–2
‌‌
Does the way you talk about the authorities, president for instance, or your posts, reflect that sort of attitude toward the authorities that God has placed in your life. How about your boss? Your teacher? Your coach? Your parents? ALL AUTHORITY – Does the way you talk about your authorities when they are there or behind their backs honor the God that put them in authority over you.
(Parents, don’t teach your kids to dishonor their authorities by dishonoring them yourselves, by the way you talk about their coaches in the car after the game, or their teachers who may be treating them unfairly, or the way you yell at referees. Every authority your child has been given is from the Lord, and your child needs some bad ones to sanctify them. Don’t rid them of that sanctification)
1 Timothy 2:2–3
That we may live a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified - what is meant is that when the government is under control, meaning primarily not at war, it allows the church to do the things the church is called to do without extra hindrance - transition
Evangelism
See the line of thought here, I didnt post a slide so you’d look down and see the whole passage (If you dont have a Bible)
1 Timothy 2:4–7
Pray for ALL PEOPLE, because God desires ALL PEOPLE to be saved, Jesus gave himself for ALL
See the reasoning? Pray for Kings and authorities because God desires All People to be Saved and Christ died for All People
Prayer for Authorities SO THAT others may know Christ
The assumption is, if we have peace, we will be striving to evangelize others.
In Greek, Evangelism is just Gospelism
1 Timothy 2:4
What truth?
1 Timothy 2:5–6
We spent the entirety of our Christmas sermon on those 2 verses . . .
That is the powerful truth. That is the truth the world needs. That is the truth your neighbor needs. That is the truth that the church is intended to spread. This is the truth that YOU HAVE.
The church is meant to be like a dandelion that floats into a fruitless field, and then causes dandelions to spring up all around it.
The community we are in should be different because we are here, CHIEFLY because more people know the Truth, the community or workplace that God has put YOU in should be the same
Reasons dont evangelize
Dont really believe in the power of the Gospel
Romans 1:16
You arent lost if you dont evangelize, but you are holding food while the beggar goes hungry. You are holding the key while the chained are drug by. You have been fed, you have been set free, you have found the meaning of life!
Yes, you can do a lot by living a life that is obviously different, but that person watching you will never come to an understanding of the Gospel that we just discussed unless you speak of it, or bring them to church to hear it and see it here.
If you dont want to do the talking yourself, ask if theyd be willing to talk to me. I am here for you.
Matthew 9:37–38
The Central Message of this section is Prayer - Pray for all people, Pray for Authorities, Pray for Souls to be Saved!
But here also is the underlying main point which is that the local church should be evangelistic. That doesn’t primarily mean evangelistic programs that the church does in an official capacity . . .
