Adoration

I’d like our hearts to be directed to adoration...

…by the truths found in Colossians 1:13-14...

…but we’ll begin by reading the context in verse 12

Colossians 1:12 (ESV)

12 ...the Father, . . . has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

What’s the inheritance?

The Kingdom of Christ!

The next verses tell us how:

Colossians 1:13–14 (ESV)

13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,

14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Paul recounted Jesus telling him this to King Agrippa.

It fills in some of the details of the transferral.

He told him that, He was sent to the Gentiles:

Acts 26:18 (ESV)

18 to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

Finally, let’s be obey the injunction of the author of Hebrews...

…that we’ve been seeing in our study of Haggai...

Hebrews 12:28–29 (LSB)

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;

29 for OUR GOD IS A CONSUMING FIRE.

7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,

7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,

10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,

12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.

13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,

14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
