Review
Last week we learned about adultery and desire.
We were challenged to ask God to guard our hearts.
Did you do it?

Introduction
Today we are going to learn about what Jesus teaches about divorce.
Story regarding its importance...
Handouts
Passage
DIVORCE PRACTICES CENSURED
31 “It was also said, Whoever divorces his wife must give her a written notice of divorce.,
32 But I tell you, everyone who divorces his wife, except in a case of sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery.
And whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Main Points
1) Moses allowed people to divorce.
The Bible teaches us how ancient Israel used to function in the OT.
Moses says in Deut.
24:1, “If a man marries a woman, but she becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, he may write her a divorce certificate, hand it to her, and send her away from his house.”
Isn’t this what we do in America today?
When something breaks, we replace it...
Divorce hurts people, families, and upsets God.
2) God designed marriage to last for a lifetime.
Sadly, marriage is a promise often broken.
Over 50% of marriages fail right now.
Why?
Lack of godliness; self-centered attitudes.
Jesus says in Mark 10:9, “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Marriage is not for everyone.
If God blesses you with a spouse, they should be cherished forever.
If the relationship gets rocky, climb on; do not give up!
3) Marriage is an example of God’s love for Christians.
Because humanity is sinful, it worships “other gods” instead of the Most High God.
When we make an idol (phone, friends, self) and worship it instead of God, we commit spiritual adultery against Him.
(There’s that self-centered attitude again.)
God loves us so much that (John 3:16)...
Heaven is described as a wedding feast.
The angels will sing, according to Rev. 19:7, “Let us be glad, rejoice, and give him glory, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride [the church] has prepared herself.
She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure.
For the fine linen represents the righteous acts of the saints.”
Application
This week I will tell someone how much I care about them.
