Preparing for Revival:
GOD'S METHOD FOR REVIVAL PREPARATION- AN INTRODUCTION
2 Chronicles 7:14
Introduction:
Our text provides an overview, and introduction to revival preparation.
This evening, we will get a 50,000 foot view of revival preparation.
We will take an introductory look at some key truths that are critical to revival preparation.
Over the next few weeks, we will take a more in-depth look at this subject.
I- REAL REVIVAL BEGINS WITH A NARROW SCOPE.
A- Revival begins with God’s people.
(2 Chronicles 7:14a)
2 Chronicles 7:14a (NLT)
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
1- Notice to whom the verse is addressed: "if my people who are called by my name.”
God is speaking to people who have identified themselves with Him and His work.
He is speaking to people that we would call saved.
a.

1.) God had warned His people that their disobedience to His Word and commands would bring with it dire consequences for their land.
(2 Chronicles 7:13)
b.
He follows the warning with a pathway to find renewal and healing from Him.
B- In the Book of Acts, God first worked in His people before awakening the lost to their need of Christ.
1- Notice that God had drawn his people into preparation before they could be used to reach the lost.
(Acts 1:4-5, 12-15)
Acts 1:4–5 (NLT)
4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before.
5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 1:12–15 (NLT)
12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, a distance of half a mile.
13 When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying.
Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the zealot), and Judas (son of James).
14 They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.
15 During this time, when about 120 believers were together in one place, Peter stood up and addressed them.
(Acts 2:42-45)
Acts 2:42–45 (NLT)
42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.
43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders.
44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.
45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.
(Acts 4:23-25)
Acts 4:23–25 (NLT)
23 As soon as they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other believers and told them what the leading priests and elders had said.
24 When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: “O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—
25 you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, your servant, saying, ‘Why were the nations so angry?
Why did they waste their time with futile plans?
(Acts 13:1-3)
Acts 13:1–3 (NLT)
1 Among the prophets and teachers of the church at Antioch of Syria were Barnabas, Simeon (called “the black man”), Lucius (from Cyrene), Manaen (the childhood companion of King Herod Antipas), and Saul.
2 One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.”
3 So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.
TS: Now, He sets forth the conditions necessary to reverse His judgment and to being revival.
II.
REAL REVIVAL DEMANDS REAL PREPARATION
A. Preparation in Attitude -
(2 Chronicles 7:14b)
2 Chronicles 7:14b (NLT)
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
1- Humility - This word has the idea of being "under another".
One of the things God's people must do is remember Who is Lord!
When we humble ourselves to the Lord, we are acknowledging His Lordship and headship in our lives.
We are admitting our weakness and reaching out for His power.
*Ill.
This is the picture seen in Joshua 5:13-15.
Joshua is told to remove his shoe.
This was an ancient way of symbolizing the relinquishing of control to another.
Joshua 5:13–15 (NLT)
13 When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand.
Joshua went up to him and demanded, “Are you friend or foe?”
14 “Neither one,” he replied.
“I am the commander of the Lord’s army.”
At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence.
“I am at your command,” Joshua said.
“What do you want your servant to do?”
15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.”
And Joshua did as he was told.
2- Those who willingly humble themselves under the hand of the Lord open their lives to His blessings - (Matt.
23:12; James 4:6; James 4:10; 1 Pet.
5:5-6.)
Matthew 23:12 (NLT)
12 But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
James 4:6 (NLT)
6 And he gives grace generously.
As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
James 4:10 (NLT)
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.
1 Peter 5:5–6 (NLT)
5 In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders.
And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.
Please note that our humility is to be voluntary!
If we do not humble ourselves, there may come a day when the Lord will do it for us.
His methods are not always the most pleasant!
B. Preparation in Communication
(2 Chronicles 7: 14c)
2 Chronicles 7:14c (NLT)
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
