“CHANGED PLANS AND GOOD NEWS”

2 Corinthians 1:12-2:11

• Have you noticed that often we find ourselves facing multiple troubles, all at the same time? Trouble on top of trouble! Why can’t they come one at a time?

• The Apostle Paul’s multiple troubles:

1. Great troubles and pressures in Asia.

2. False accusations and criticism.

3. A 4 ½ year issue in Corinth.

1. CHANGED PLANS. 1:12-2:4

• The original plans. 1:15-16 (1 Corinthians 16:5-7)

• The change in plans. 2:1, 3-4

• The misunderstanding and criticism. 1:12-14, 17-18

• The explanation. 1:19-2:4

The one who has misunderstood and is criticizing:

- has come to inaccurate conclusions

- tends to exaggerate and “build cases”

- becomes suspicious and looks for reinforcement

- is usually unwilling to listen to the truth

The one who is misunderstood and criticized:

- is vulnerable to continued criticism

- becomes uneasy and anxious

- feels helpless when not listened to

- is tempted to fight back

2. GOOD NEWS. 2:5-11 (7:5-7)

• After 4 ½ years, 3 letters, and a painful visit

• Brought to Paul by Titus

• Comfort, joy, happiness, encouragement, and delight

• Time to forgive and reaffirm love

Brothers and sisters in Christ: Always remember that in the midst of numerous trials, difficulties, suffering, and distress, our good and faithful God is at work. And there will be good news! Look and listen for it … it’s coming!

(John 5:17, James 1:2-5, Romans 8:26-29)
