Message

The most obvious theme for Tata was love
He loved his family and many people outside of that
Nana & Tata welcomed everyone
They had a unique combination of making you feel comfortable and loved
When I started dating Jen, Nana told me to call them Nana & Tata
I didn’t know their names for over a year
We were at a family event and someone said Harold and Beverly and I looked at Jen and ask “Who’s Harold and Beverly?”
I watched her do that with every future spouse her grandchildren brought in
Tata embodied love
1 John 3:18 ESV
Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
I think this verse perfectly describes Tata
Every once in a while God sends you someone to show that love in flesh and bone
He was really good at showing his love for you
He was a man of few words but of great action
He was quick to help anyone who needed it
He loved making things for people
That’s how he showed his love
His greatest love was reserved for Nana
Tata would kiss Nana and tell he loved her every morning when he woke up and before he went to bed
He was a great example of Honoring your wife
He supported everything she wanted to do and new all the details
Nana told me this week that they never argued
I know what some of you Portugese are thinking, “Smart man, never argue with a Portugese woman.”
They didn’t agree on everything but the never argued
One of the endearing memories I have was at family parties seeing
I remember Tata, Uncle Gene, & Uncle Ed sitting in the sun room at Tata’s house drinking and telling jokes
I can’t repeat most of what was said there but I always loved their relationship
The stories and laughter were infectious
Tata modeled Godly love
1 John 3:16 ESV
By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
God modeled His love for us by sending his Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross
Jesus laid down his life and took our sins so that we could have eternal life
1 John 4:9–10 ESV
In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Not only did Jesus die for our sins but he came that we might truly live here on earth
Tata believed that and accepted Jesus as His savior
He stands in the glory of heaven
You can have the same thing
All it takes is putting your trust in Jesus Christ and your sins will be forgiven, your eternal destiny will be secured, and the love of God will be poured into your heart
