I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. 14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. 15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them? 16 He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. 17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? 18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. 19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. 20 And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor. 21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly: 22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no? 23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? 24 Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? OUR CHURCH COVENANT
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this Church in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the Church, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.
We also engage to maintain family and personal devotions; to educate our children in the Christian faith; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment, to avoid all tattling, backbiting and excessive anger; to seek God's help in abstaining from all drugs, drink, and practices which bring unwarranted harm to the body or jeopardize our own or another's faith.
We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.
We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will, if possible, unite with a church of like faith where we can carry out the articles of this confession and the spirit of this covenant.

Over the last 8 years, the Carpenters has served faithfully at two churches. One as a church planter in Atlanta and the other as an administrator at a church in Covington, GA.
God has brought him them back to us for what I believe is a special and important season in the life of our church. He will serve as our Administrative Pastor. Simply he will help with the work God has given to us as a church.

Before God and by his grace I resolve the following:
I resolve to keep watch over my own life, seeking to live in a manner pleasing to God and worthy of his calling. (Acts 20:28; Ephesians 4:1)
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
I resolve to watch over and pray for the flock of God entrusted to our care as one who must give an account. (Acts 20:28; Hebrews 13:17)

Questions by curious minds; Dad why is the sky blue?
Questions to test me; Dad, who is your favorite kid?
Questions asked to set me up for other questions; Dad do you want me to feel special and loved on my 13th birthday?
Questions that are asked to prove I do not know what I am talking about; Really?

Here we have a rabbinic antinomy
a contradiction between two beliefs or conclusions that are in themselves reasonable; a paradox.
The question is asked both before and after a quotation of Psalm 110:1.
1 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, Until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Who is David’s Lord?
Jesus' goal is not to deny either premise but to show a relationship between two concepts that otherwise might appear to be in tension.
In effect, Jesus is saying, more important than Jesus being David's son is that he is David's Lord.
Or to answer Jesus' final question:
The fact that He is David's son is less significant than that he is David's Lord.
Davidic sonship is not being denied; in fact, Davidic sonship is an important concept to Luke.

We were faced with a question of who was speaking in Psalm 110:1 “1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.”

Important to know that David is speaking. Some believe this is someone, like Zadok the priest, speaking of David.
Though not necessary it is very helpful how the word Lord is spelled differently in most of our Bibles. (All caps vs Capital L)

We have in Jesus a King/Priest. The better we understand those roles in our lives the better we see the beauty of His holiness.

Every person should respond to this truth by trusting Christ as Savior and yielding to Him as Lord, even as David did.
To understand is to follow.

The proper response is not just believing intellectually that Jesus is the Messiah or that He is your Savior.
The proper response means believing in Jesus in the sense that you follow Him as Lord, so that in thought, word, and deed you are growing to be more and more like Him.
In school some of you preferred the multiple choice option over the essay. It gave you at least a 25% chance. Others of you in here preferred the short essay. That way you could pretend to know the answer even if you didn’t.
Did you ever have one of those quizzes where the teacher wanted to see if you were reading the instructions. It would tell you to not fill the test out but wait two minutes and turn in the test.
This is a test where if there is understanding it is more than intellectual. We begin a new creature. Our lives are completely reshaped by the truth.

When I was nine years old I repented of my sins and accepted the gift offered to me by Jesus. If you asked me if I was “born again” I doubt I would have know to say yes, tough I was.
As a teenager I knew that Jesus had all claims upon my life and I was not yielding to Him as I should be. When I heard heard that He is was the Lord of my life. My heart said yes. I knew this.
I believe I became a child of God as a child. But as I became an adult. I had adult size decisions to make. I needed to grow in grace and knowledge of His Lordship in my life.

I do not know if the new modern rending of Jesus would be crucified by this world.
We would be adopted as our mascot for our causes.

The mystery is solved. And it is only solved in light of the incarnation.
Because though Jesus was born of Mary in a manger 2000 years ago he is the co-eternal, co-existent, all powerful son of God.
When we take our eyes off Jesus, we immediately lose our way around the Bible!
And he used an illustration of a sundial. He lived a long time ago; he lived in the middle of the nineteenth century. Do you know Jesus as the Lord of the Universe?

If you’ve never done so, I encourage you to read the Gospels and ask, “Who is Jesus Christ? What claims does He make about Himself? Could such a man as this merely be David’s son, or must He also be David’s Lord? And, if He is David’s Lord, should He not also be my Lord?”
