Throughout chapter 9 the Main theme has been the Sovereignty of God.
He chooses what will happen and His will is perfect.
Nothing ever takes God by surprise because He knew it was going to happen before the world was ever created.
This morning we are looking at a passage that see the restoration of Israel and the addition of gentiles to the family of God.
Paul shows that there is no race when it comes to God there is on believing and unbelieving.

Israels Unbelief was No Surprise to God

( vv25-29)

Here in these verses Paul uses 2 different quotes from Hosea and 2 different quotes from Isaiah to show that Israels unbelief and rejection of the Messiah and His gospel fit what the prophets had predicted.

Hosea 1

Paul uses Hosea and his life as a prophet to drive home the point that Israel has turned their backs on God.
Hose was a prophet to the northern kingdom.
God used him in a different way to try to get the attention of the people but sadly they did not listen.
God had Hosea marry a harlot: Gomer
This act was to show the unfaithfulness of Israel to God.
Just as she strayed on Hosea Israel strayed on God and started worshiping idols.
Have three children by this harlot named:
A son named Jezreel which means “God sows”
A daughter named Lo-Ruhamah which means “No Mercy”
A son named Lo-Ammi which means “Not my People”
God was trying to tell His people what was coming but they would not listen.

Isaiah 10:22

Isaiah 10:22 ESV
22 For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness.
Paul says here that Isaiah was crying out this message to the people of Israel and the word here for cry means Krazo which means to cry out with great emotion like that of a parent crying out for a lost child.
Not everyone will follow God.
This is why we cannot get discouraged when it comes to Evangelism or trying to lead people to church.
While not everyone will come the ones that will are worth the time and effort.

Gods Prerequisite of Faith Regardless of Situation (vv 30-33)

The only prerequisite for salvation is faith.
Paul is telling these Jews who have had it ingrained into the lives that salvation is through faith and not works.
The stone of stumbling was the 10 commandments
It is called a rock of offense because it should offend us because of how far away we are from reaching that standard of perfection.
It should not be a point of pride for how good we are at following it.
