This Week’s Theme: Working God’s Way
This Week’s Word is Renunciation: The deliberate rejection or disavowal, especially of a person or object.
Memory Verse: Luke 9:23 “23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: In light of the destroying of Aaron’s two older sons, God told Moses to tell Aaron not to approach Him at any time.
Sermon Proposition: As Christians, we should not be presumptuous in worship, but give God what He wants.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to think about ways they are or were presumptuous and develop a plan to change.
Sermon Text: Leviticus 16:1-2
Leviticus 16:1–2 NKJV
1 Now the Lord spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered profane fire before the Lord, and died; 2 and the Lord said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.
INTRODUCTION:
TRANSITION:

I. Regard the Rules

(To take notice of and be guided by)
Leviticus 16:2 NKJV
2 and the Lord said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.

Unintentionally

Leviticus 4:2–3 NKJV
2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a person sins unintentionally against any of the commandments of the Lord in anything which ought not to be done, and does any of them, 3 if the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, then let him offer to the Lord for his sin which he has sinned a young bull without blemish as a sin offering.

Thoughtlessly

Leviticus 5:4 NKJV
4 ‘Or if a person swears, speaking thoughtlessly with his lips to do evil or to do good, whatever it is that a man may pronounce by an oath, and he is unaware of it—when he realizes it, then he shall be guilty in any of these matters.

Falsely

Leviticus 6:3–4 NKJV
3 or if he has found what was lost and lies concerning it, and swears falsely—in any one of these things that a man may do in which he sins: 4 then it shall be, because he has sinned and is guilty, that he shall restore what he has stolen, or the thing which he has extorted, or what was delivered to him for safekeeping, or the lost thing which he found,

Keep

Leviticus 18:4 NKJV
4 You shall observe My judgments and keep My ordinances, to walk in them: I am the Lord your God.

Warning

Leviticus 26:15 NKJV
15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant,

II. Relent to the Ruling

cease to resist

Leviticus 10:6 NKJV
6 And Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his sons, “Do not uncover your heads nor tear your clothes, lest you die, and wrath come upon all the people. But let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the Lord has kindled.
