Getting through difficult times.
Getting through difficult times.
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.”
36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him.
37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
Prayer:
Some will tell you that if you just trust God everything will be okay. Just wake and believe in God, and your will be fine.

Suicide, drugs, alcohol, nervous break down, try to deal with on their own. Give up on God.

I. Have faith in the words of Jesus. VS 35-36
I. Have faith in the words of Jesus. VS 35-36
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.”
36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him.
1.It had been a long day for Jesus.
a. Jesus is in the same boat that He had been teaching from.
b. There were other boats making the trip with them.
c. We need Jesus on board in our lives so we can have a since of direction.
d. If you are not going in the directions that Jesus is leading , (that means you are doing as he leads, you are following his words, putting all your trust in him) if not then you are going in the wrong direction.
c. But, just because you are going the direction that Jesus is leading you in, just because you are doing everything right, doesn’t mean that you are not going have storms in your life.
d. The disciples were getting into a boat, with Jesus, not knowing that a storm was on its way. This is where the words of Jesus come in.
“Let us pass over unto the other side”
2. This is a statement of fact. We will pass over to the other side.
a. Not, lets try. Not, I hope. Not, we may. But, we will pass pass over unto the other side.
b. When you become a follower of Jesus. Elab
c. Here is somethings followers of Jesus are promised.
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
d. But, He never said we would live a life free of difficulties. And He didn’t promise His disciples that there would be smooth sailing when He told them “lets pass over unto the other side”
e. They just needed to trust Him.
Trust Him to get us through whatever you are going through.
Trust Him for what you are going to got through, that you don’t even know about.
II. Have faith during difficult times. VS 37-40
II. Have faith during difficult times. VS 37-40
37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
1. This storm came suddenly. The sea of Galilee was located between hills. The cool air from the hills would come down, and met the warm air and cause a storm.
a. The storms of life come suddenly, and severely. Storms that make us anxious. Everything seems to be going well, then boom, it hits and it hits hard.
b. That’s how life is. Cancer, some other sickness, death, lose of job.
c. Things in life seem to be going great, then it hits.
d. This is one of the reasons we need Jesus is our lives.
2. Reasons for these storms in our lives.
a. Sometimes we bring them on ourselves. This what happened to Jonah. Elab.
b. God may use a storm, (difficult time) to get our attention. He may be calling on you to do something, to be more faithful in your giving, to just start giving.
c. To share your faith.
d. Whatever your storm is, and for what ever reason, the devil is going to attack you.
e. The waves hitting the boat, water is coming in the boat. Things weren't looking real good. It seemed that this boat was going to sink.
f. The disciples were fearing for their lives, The storm that caused them to picnic. NEXT VERSE
38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
The wake Jesus up, “Don’t you care that were are perishing?” Its was like Jesus didn’t know what was going on.
a. Have you ever felt that way? Like Jesus didn’t know what you are going through? I have.
b. Why did they question Jesus? Why do we question Jesus? We will see in VS 40. Lack of faith.
c. The disciples had seen Jesus is action. Elab.
d. But now they were allowing fear to take over. They were afraid of the storm.
e.They had no reason to be afraid. Jesus had given them His word. “Let us pass over unto the other side”
2. We can read the Bible (God’s word). But we have to be our trust in what we read. Faith is taking God at His word. You don’t have to be afraid when Jesus is on broad.
A lot of peoples favorite Bible Verse is
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
But, do you live that verse? Do you truly out your trust in Jesus in anything is your live? Sharing Jesus with the lost. Elab
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
39 And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
When problems rise up in your life, Jesus will rise up.
a. Jesus gets up from His sleep, rebukes the wind and says to the sea, peace to still.
b. Jesus has power over nature. He has power your storm.
c. Jesus brought a claim and peace in the mist of a storm.
d. Think about what is going on in our word today. This virus is a storm. People are worries about getting.
e. People have lost their jobs. Some may loss their business. How long will this last. Will it happen again.
f But, this is the not only storm people have ever gone through. You may be going the a storm (difficulty) of some other kind. And you have a choose, faith or fear?
40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”
40 And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”
Jesus, in a loving way, asks them. Why were you so fearful? That term means, why were you acting so cowardly?
a. How is it that you have no faith?
b. Jesus asks. Why are you so fearful? Why is it that you have on faith? Faith and fear cannot exist in our hearts at the some time.
c. Fear is looking at the circumstances, faith is looking to Jesus.
d. They had seen miracles of Jesus. They had heard His words. But, now they had allowed fear to take over.
e. They had no reason to fear, Jesus had given them His word, “Lets pass over to the over side”
f. But we are fearful at times. Our faith can lack if we don’t put all of our trust in Jesus.
g. But we can have faith in Jesus.
h. Jesus had given His word which they should have trusted. Now with His words, He bring them peace.
“Peace be still. and the wind ceased, and there was a great calm”
i. That is what He will do for you.
III. Have faith in who Jesus is. VS 41
III. Have faith in who Jesus is. VS 41
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
41 They became very much afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”
These men had been with Jesus. They had seen the things that he had done. But they still didn’t understand everything about Him. But they knew there was something special.
a. We will never compliantly understand why God does what He does, Or why He allows things to happen.
b. But we can have faith, we can trust that even in the difficult times (storms of life) that He will get us through them.
Look back at VS 35
