UNIQUE MESSAGE
Seventh-Adventists value the Bible, and they also value the ministry of Ellen White.
Adventists are not another denomination.
They are a prophetic movement.
Raised up by God for this very time.
Our prophetic heritage is our identity.
We have the advent hope burning within our hearts.
“God has chosen a people who are to proclaim the third angel’s message to the world.
They are to be a separate and peculiar people in this world of churches who are transgressing His commandments.
We have a special work to do to prepare the people for the greatest event the world has ever seen.
The books of Daniel and Revelation are of great consequence to us, and should be studied with great earnestness.”
Supplement to the Review and Herald, January 21, 1898, 4.
Our evangelistic preaching must demonstrate the fact we are a prophectic movement with a special message to the tell the world of the soon coming of Christ.
All the great truth of Scripture are illuminated through a prophetic viewpoint, especially that of the books of Daniel and Revelation.
“When the Books of Daniel and Revelation are better understood, believers willl have an entirely different religious experience.”
The Faith I Live by, 345
“There is need of a much closer study of the Word of God; especially should Daniel and the Revelation have attention as never before. . . .
The light that Daniel recieved from God was given especially for these last days.”
TMGW, 112, 113.
THE WHOLE MESSAGE
“There will be times when we must stand still and see the salvation of God.
Let Daniel speak, let the Revelation speak, and tell what is truth.
But whatever phase of the subject is presented, uplift Jesus as the center of all hope, ‘the root and the offspring of David, and the bright morning star.’”
Ibid, 118
Our prophetic evangelistic preaching is not just for the sake of revealing prophecies.
It is for discovering and presenting Jesus Christ.
If we don’t center our message in Jesus, then we haven’t found the real message of the prophetic books.
According to Ellen White, Christ-centeredness should be the hallmark of Adventist Evangelistic preaching.
“We need far less controversy, and far more presentation of Christ.
Our redemer is the center of all our faith and hope.
Those who can present His matchless love, and inspire hearts to give Him their best and holiest affections, are doing work that is great and holy.
The many argumentative sermons preached seldom soften and subdue the soul.”
Evangelism, 172.
“Christ crucified, Christ risen, Christ ascended into the heavens, Christ coming again should soften, gladden, and fill the mind of the minister that he will present these truths to the people in love and deep earnestness.
The minister will then be lost sight of, and Jesus will be made manifest.
Lift up Jesus, you that teach the people, lift Him up in sermon, in song, in prayer.
Let all your powers be directed to pointing souls, confused, bewildered, lost, to ‘the lamb of God.’
Lift Him up, the risen Saviour, and say to all who hear, Come to Him who ‘hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us.’
Let the science of salvation be the burden of every sermon, the theme of every song.
Let it be poured forth in every supplication.
Bring nothing into your preaching to supplement Christ, the wisdom and power of God.
Ibid, 185.
MANNER OF PREACHING EVANGELISTICALLY
Our Christ-centered prophetic message is to lead us to be kind and courteous in our presentations of the truths.
Severe, critical, dictatorial, and denunciations of other churches wounds and discourages people.
“The best way to expose the fallacy of error is to present the evidences of truth.
This is the greatest rebuke that can be given to error.”
Adventist evangelistic preachers must be exciting in the pulpit.
We need to keep our presentations simple, and we need to illustrate them in all their beauty.
It is so easy to get caught up in the deep explanations of the 2,300 days and other prophecies and lose sight of the simple truth that lie at the foundation of their great messages.
Don’t allow yourself to preach such complicated sermons that you miss the big picture.
Preach with passion.
Preach like you believe it.
Preach like you are excited about what you are presenting.
“There is a living power in the truth.
But the ministers and workers who proclaim the truth must show certainty and decision.
They are to go forth in faith, and present the Word as though they belived it.
Try to make those for whom you labor understand that it is God’s truth.
Preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
This will confront Satan’s lies.”
Ibid, 169.
Adventist preachers are to be grace-centered.
Everytime we preach, we are to reveal that men and women are saved solely by the precious blood of Jesus.
Never finish an evangelist message without calling people to come to Christ and be saved.
Present before them Jesus Christ, the sinner’s only refuge, making earnest appeals that will reach their hearts.
SUMMARY AND LESSONS
Ellen White called for a passionate, Bible-based, truth-filled, and prophetic approach in our evangelistic preaching.
Evangelistic preaching must be Christ-centered and cross-centered.
Evangelistic preaching should not only bring people to Jesus but also instruct them in the basic prophetic message of Adventism centered in Christ.
To be Christ-centered in our evangelistic preaching doesn’t mean that we add just a little section on Jesus to a sermon that otherwise contains nothing about Him.
Adventist message is logical.
One truth builds on another, and the entire system is nearly bound together.
Evangelistic messages must be presented authoritatively
Evangelistic messages must be Spirit-driven
The voice and manarisms used in evangelistic preaching should be reprentative of the one we are asking people to accept.
Evangelsitic sermons should always make an appeal
Evangelistic sermons should be relevant to today’s needs
Adventists have especially been called to preach the truths found in the prophetic books of Daniel and Revelation.
