Life can have a way sometimes to make us feel and be okay with being in a comfortable position.
In Life being comfortable is nice but I have found out if we are comfortable for too long we can become complacent.
Complacency can cause us to be content in a place when God Has another place ,and new adventures , and Ideas to Show you if you would step out of your comfort zone and Get out the Boat.
Getting out of the boat is sometimes what we need to do in order to Get to our next level
God wants to take us a new Level but we are often times to comfortable and are fine with trusting God on the level that you are on instead of extending your faith and stepping out the Boat and trusting Him to Do something in your life that has never been done.
So I want you to think about it Have you put off getting out the boat or getting out of your comfort zone because it is a familiar place or a comfortable place that you are use to?
What have you let cause you to become to Comfortable and not exercise faith with getting out the Boat?
Lets take a look at our lesson.
So we see here that Jesus just finished feeding the multitude with 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread He feeds 5000 not including the women and children
Jesus Goes on to tell his disciples to get on the Boat and Go to the other side. While he tells them that he goes to the mountains to pray.
Lets look at our text .
Matthew 14:25–32 NLT
About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped.
I Want to Highlight a few thing from the text tonight.
So we see here that the winds and rhe waves are very strong and its beating up the boat. Not only that but its late. The bible says that it is the 4th watch of the night so about somewhere between 3 am and 6 am
So the Disciples are out here on the boat in the storm on this sea, the text says that they Him walking on the Sea they thought it was a Ghost
I begin to ask questions why think its a Ghost, Well according to the custom at this time and the sea they were on it was considered a bed a demons. So the whole time the disciples who had just left from with Jesus thought a Ghost was walking towards them.
The disciples holler out in fear and say its Ghost. But Jesus Responds in Matthew 14:27
Matthew 14:27 NLT
But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”
The first response the discples had was fear but Jesus Comes in and tell them don’t be afraid but Take courage for It is I.
When I look at this response that Jesus gives to his disciples it blessed me because before peter ask him to come out on the water he gives us the blueprint on what is Necessary for getting out the boat.
If we Are going to get out the boat First thing is we can’t be afraid.
Don’t let fear stop you from moving to your next. Being Fearful will get you no where.
Not only that being fearful is a tatic from the enemy to not have you believing and trusting in what God Said.
So Don’t be afraid and the next thing he tell his Disciples is to Take courage.
So I can’t be afraid and I must be courageous.
Getting out the boat requires you to be courages you may not know what is next but you have to be courageous and take that step.
We have to be courageous because the bible tells us that Greater is He that is in you than he than that is in the World.
You can get out that bout with your head High and chest out because You have God on your Side.
No Need to be sad and afraid but be courageous.
Then He Goes on to give us a reason why we don’t have to be afraid and why we should take courage and That Reason is It Is I.
It is I, It is Jesus.
Jesus is basically saying if you do these things I got you. I am a Man of my Word.
The bible even says God is not a man that he should lie nor the son of man that he shall repent if he said it he is going to do it.
So again jesus is saying I got you. If you do these things and step out the boat just know It IS I .
I am the one that told you these things so don’t worry just don’t be afraid, Take courage and Know That I got you.
Now We Get to Verse 28-29
Matthew 14:28–29 NLT
Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.
So Out of all the disciples that just heard the instructions and message of basically have faith and Trust who I am, Peter Speaks up.
Peter Said Lord if its really Bid me to come. Meaning Beckon me or call me to come.
So Jesus Tells him to come.
Peter steps out and starts walking
Peter is doing well he does everything but sure enough the adrenaline must have stop flowing and he now starts to think about what he’s doing and that causes him to start looking around seeing the wind pushing the waves and ultimately, That caused him to be afraid and he begins to sink.
You have heard what it takes to get out the boat, The Lords tells you to come.
Now it is our job to remain focus on who got us and will get us through the storm.
So Peter Gets out the boat and began to let the winds and the waves take him from off his focus
When we get out the boat our faith will be tested things will try to make us lose are attention from what God told us to do, and that is to come to him.
What has been your distraction that is making you take your focus off of jesus.
