Introduction

Our world has convoluted marriage. Unfortunately, the convolution of marriage has seeped into the Lord’s churches.

A pluralistic culture has a view of marriage, Christians have a view of marriage and God has a view of marriage.

The view we need to pursue after is God’s view of marriage.

Matthew 19:10 “His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.”

The question is why is God’s view of marriage so high and why pursue after His view, while rejecting others?

God Designed Marriage

Genesis 2:18-25 “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”

I believe the reason we lose sight of God’s view of marriage is we lose sight of God.

Gene Kranz: Well, we're gonna have to figure it out. I want people in our simulators working re-entry scenarios. I want you guys to find every engineer who designed every switch, every circuit, every transistor and every light bulb that's up there, then I want you to talk to the guy in the assembly line who had actually built the thing. The more we know about God, the better equipped we are to have a strong marriage.

I want to briefly describe three attributes of God and how they relate to our marriage.

God’s Love

Three periods of history

Period before time

Temporal history

Period after time

The only person to live in all three periods is God - Psalms 90:2 “Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”

We know very little about the activities of God before temporal History

John 17:23 “I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”

John 17:26 “And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

The are several different Greek words translated as Love in our New Testament

Romantic Love

Friendship Love

Flirtatious Love

Familial Love

Self-Love

Pragmatic Love - Commitment

Self-less and Unconditional Love

God the Father loves the Son unconditionally and selflessly - And He created so that He can share this love.
