Scriptures:
1 Samuel 1:22-28
1 Samuel 1:22-28
22 But Hannah did not go. She told her husband, “Wait until the boy is weaned. Then I will take him to the Tabernacle and leave him there with the Lord permanently.” 23 “Whatever you think is best,” Elkanah agreed. “Stay here for now, and may the Lord help you keep your promise.” So she stayed home and nursed the boy until he was weaned. 24 When the child was weaned, Hannah took him to the Tabernacle in Shiloh. They brought along a three-year-old bull for the sacrifice and a basket of flour and some wine. 25 After sacrificing the bull, they brought the boy to Eli. 26 “Sir, do you remember me?” Hannah asked. “I am the very woman who stood here several years ago praying to the Lord. 27 I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. 28 Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there.
Matthew 19:13-15,
Matthew 19:13-15,
13 One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” 15 And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left.
Luke 2:21-24
Luke 2:21-24
21 Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived. 22 Then it was time for their purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. 23 The law of the Lord says, “If a woman’s first child is a boy, he must be dedicated to the Lord.” 24 So they offered the sacrifice required in the law of the Lord—“either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
The presenting of a child in dedication is a serious matter. It involves responsibilities with which we shall be charged.

Address to Congregation: The family is a divine institution ordained of God from the beginning of time. Children are a heritage of the Lord committed by Him to their parents for care, protection, and training for His glory. Jochebed of old trained her own child, Moses, after having given him to the lord. Hannah recognized that her Child belonged to God. Mary also brought the infant Jesus to the temple. The parents of this child likewise recognize the sacredness of being parents and bring back to the Lord the treasure that the Lord has entrusted to them. In doing so, they recognize and publicly acknowledge their responsibility to nurture and train this child in the ways of the Lord.

Charge to Parents: Parents, the first responsibility is yours. Before God, to whom you bring your child I charge each of you:
That you will pray for them and live a godly life before them. That they would learn what it means to follow Christ from you.
That you Make your home a place where they would receive Christian instruction.
That you would be faithful to church and faithful to bring them to church so that they may grow in their knowledge of God.
As you stand here before God and this congregation, do you solemnly undertake to raise this child in the fear and admonition of the Lord? Do you promise, as much as possible, to live godly and consistent lives before him?
