Ephesians ~ Redemption in Christ

February 19, 2023

Ephesians 1:3-14 ~ Redemption in Christ

• We have been accepted in Christ!

• ‘Made accepted’ is Strong’s Concordance G5487 Charitoo and is used only here & Luke 1:28 where it means highly favored. We are ‘made accepted’ and ‘highly favored!’

• We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

• ‘Redemption’ is Strong’s Concordance G629 apolutrosis and means; ransom paid in full; deliverance. We have been redeemed by His grace, not by any works of ours.

• God did not ask us to work for spiritual blessings ~ He asked us to believe for them!

• ‘Faithful’ in verse 1- is Strong’s Concordance G4103 pistos means, trustworthy, trusting, believing, faithful, sure, and true.

• The riches of His grace cannot be exhausted & cannot be calculated. They are infinite!

• ‘Abound’ is Strong’s Concordance G4052 perisseuo and means to superabound in quantity or quality; be in excess; excel; abundance; increase.

• ‘Wisdom’ is Strong’s Concordance G4678 sophia and means wisdom, both worldly or spiritual.

• The difference between knowledge and wisdom:

o Wisdom is the correct application of knowledge.

o Knowledge is an input ~ wisdom is an output.

o Knowledge is being a hearer of the Word ~ wisdom is being a doer of the Word.

o Knowledge is gained through being diligent. 2 Tim 2:15 says, we must study to show

ourselves approved unto God. God will not do this for us. We have to do our part and study His Word. Once we’ve done that & continue to do that – God will help us put what we’ve learned to work, in the form of wisdom.

o James 1:5 says, ‘If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God…’

• ‘Prudence’ is Strong’s Concordance G5428 phronesis and means mental action or activity; intellectual or moral insight.

• God is abounding toward us in all wisdom and insight to reveal to us the mystery and will of His eternal purpose.

• A dispensation is a period of time during which God deals with mankind in a certain way.

• In the Millennium ~ Christ will rule supreme over all. He will gather together heaven & earth and they will be one kingdom.

• We have obtained an inheritance!

• All believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit.

• Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance.

• Speaking of redemption in verse 7 & verse 14:

o Verse 7 is speaking of our born-again spirit which is already a reality for us. Our sins are already forgiven ~ past, present and future.

o Verse 14 is speaking of our souls & bodies which have also been purchased through the atonement of Christ, but they are not redeemed yet. They will be when Christ returns for us.

We encourage you this week to meditate on these verses in Ephesians 1:3-14

Especially verse 8 which speaks of God abounding toward you. Imagine it and declare it.
