Jude 3–4 ESV
Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

1) What is our ultimate motivation for contending for the faith? ‌

2 Corinthians 4:7 ESV
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
Ephesians 3:8–10 ESV
To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.
James 1:12 ESV
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

2) In what ways should we proactively defend against those who seek to distort or undermine the message of Christianity?

2 Corinthians 4:7 ESV
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
Ephesians 3:8–10 ESV
To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.

3) How can we recognize false teachers and protect ourselves from their destructive heresies?

You have to know the word to recognize a false teacher.  The word is the primary (perhaps only) standard.

Romans 16:17–18 ESV
I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

4) What is the cost of not contending for the faith as we are called to? ‌

Compromised faith.
Lost Souls
Members falling prey to false teaching and its devastating affects.
Disillusionment from God
Lack of knowledge - "My people perish for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6)

5) How can we recognize when we are using our freedom in Christ as a cover-up for evil? ‌

If we are sincere, our our hearts will condemn us

1 John 3:20–21 ESV
for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

6) What spiritual dangers do false teachers and their doctrines bring upon us that can cause our faith to become corrupted? ‌

Matthew 24:24 ESV
For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
