The King has sent an envoy to prepare the people for the coming King
clean up the town/your life because the Messiah is coming
John has come to baptize for the repentance of sins
a baptism that would acknowledge what has happened in the lives of the people
a lot of people are coming out to be baptized
a lot of the pharisees and Sadducee are also coming out
and John has a large task ahead of him
how shall he get people to convert
straighten out / repent
people are happy in their sin
they are content in their religion
they don’t want to upset the apple cart
John has to shock them into absorbing the truth
some will repent some will become hardened
you cant give someone the good news until they know the bad news
someone cannot be saved until they know what they are being saved from
John had a big task to do and a shot time to do it
so he gave it to them with both barrels

snakes in the grass

But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man HID THEMSELVES IN THE CAVES and among the rocks of the mountains; and they SAID TO THE MOUNTAINS AND TO THE ROCKS, “FALL ON US AND HIDE US from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great DAY OF their WRATH has come, and who is able to stand?”
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sits upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. Then I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life. God is going to Judge sin and the sinner will be thrown eternally into the lake of fire
So you are coming out here to be baptized because they have a repentant heart
thinking being baptized is the way to go to heaven
But John says to them

show that you are converted
show that this baptism is really real
They the Jews think because of who they are , are immune to the wrath of God because...

If you are a True Christian there should be fruit
“You will know them by their fruits. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and multiplying in the full knowledge of God;
There are many who claim of being a christian who do not bear fruit
they come on Sunday and look the part but no fruit
the fruit is bad that is produced
Is there evidence of the fruit of the spirit?

John is saying to them and to us IF there is true repentance there will be fruit to back up your claim
so don’t try to use the I grew up in the family so i’m immune

By faith, Abraham was declared righteous
Abrahams fruit was trust in in God to raise up his son after the sacrifice
Abrahams fruit was trusting in God for a son
but Abraham took all his fruit with him to the grave
we have to produce our own

and if there is no fruit showing that the baptism meant something to you
if the repentance is superficial
if your life produces nothing different than the world
the wrath of God is coming on you
the axe is ready to take you down
and thrown into the everlasting fire
Are you going to a church that has a pastor who is a snake
who is poisoning you
lets give it a test
is he preaching sin? and Judgement?
he is poisoning you
is all he preaches is how to have your best life now?
does he and pick Bible verses, and take them out of context to support his theme of the day
are you offended at his preaching?
or does he tickle your ears and make you feel good
does his preaching convict you of your sin?
Does he tell you there is a hell and you are going there if you don,t repent and believe on the Lord Jesus ?
if not then he is a snake and he is poisoning you
The axe is laid at the root of his tree and will be cut down and thrown into the fire
how about you is the axe laid at your tree
take a good honest look at your life
do you produce good fruit?
love joy peace patience faithfulness goodness
Has God changed you?
is God continuing to change you?
Do you hate your sin?
if you cant say yes to theses questions you are probably not saved
