*INTRODUCTION*: ATTITUDE /THE SANTA CLAUSE MOVIE/
*/EVLES WITH ATTITUDE/*
ATTITUDES ARE IMPORTANT.
THERE WAS A FASCINATING STUDY DONE BY PROFESSOR
VICKI MEDVEC IT REVEALS THE RELATIVE IMPORTANCE
THAT OUR ATTITUDES HAVE TO DO WITH OUR HAPPYNESS.
PROFESSOR MEDVEC STUDIED OLYMPIC MEDALISTS
AND DISCOVERED THAT
BRONZE MEDALISTS WERE QUANTIFIABLY HAPPIER
THAN SILVER MEDALISTS.
THE REASON IS THAT:
SILVER MEDALISTS TENDED TO FOCUS ON HOW CLOSE THEY CAME TO WINNING THE GOLD, SO THEY WEREN'T SATISFIED WITH SILVER;
WHERE AS THE BRONZE MEDALISTS TENDED TO FOCUS ON
HOW CLOSE THEY CAME TO NOT WINNING A MEDAL AT ALL,
SO THEY WERE JUST HAPPY TO BE UP THERE ON THE MEDAL STAND.
“ATTITUDE IS A LITTLE THING THAT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE,”
WINSTON CHURCHILL ONCE SAID.
\\ *NOTHING AFFECTS THE CHURCH MORE THAN ATTITUDE.*
HE WENT ON TO SAY \\ *IT'S ATTITUDE NOT APTITUDE *
*THAT DETERMINES ONE’S ALTITUDE IN LIFE.*
\\ SOMEONE ELSE SAID, *"IT’S HARD TO BE A SMART COOKIE WITH A CRUMMY ATTITUDE."*
ANOTHER PERSON SAID,
*"A CLOUDY DAY IS NO MATCH FOR A SUNNY DISPOSITION."*
\\ OUR ATTITUDES ALWAYS SHOW THROUGH
AND AFFECT OUR ACTIONS.

TODAY WE'RE GOING TO LOOK INTO THREE OF
KING SOLOMON'S ATTITUDES.
WE'VE ALL HEARD ABOUT HOW WISE HE WAS,
BUT FROM THE VERY BEGINNING,
HE HAD SOME ATTITUDES IN HIS HEART
THAT WEREN'T THAT SMART.
THESE ATTITUDES WERE SEEDS THAT AFFECTED THE DECISIONS HE MADE IN HIS LIFE.
LET'S LOOK INTO SOLOMONS HEART AND SEE WHAT ATTITUDES WE CAN FIND.
THEY'RE FOUND IN:
*1 KINGS 3:1-15 (NIV) \\ **3** SOLOMON MADE AN ALLIANCE WITH PHARAOH KING OF EGYPT AND MARRIED HIS DAUGHTER.
*
* *
*HE BROUGHT HER TO THE CITY OF DAVID UNTIL HE FINISHED BUILDING HIS PALACE AND THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD, AND THE WALL AROUND JERUSALEM.
*
* *
*2 **THE PEOPLE, HOWEVER, WERE STILL SACRIFICING AT THE HIGH PLACES, *
*BECAUSE A TEMPLE HAD NOT YET BEEN BUILT FOR THE NAME OF THE LORD.
*
* *
*3 **SOLOMON SHOWED HIS LOVE FOR THE LORD BY WALKING ACCORDING TO THE STATUTES OF HIS FATHER DAVID, *
*EXCEPT** THAT HE OFFERED SACRIFICES AND BURNED INCENSE ON THE HIGH PLACES.
*
*1.
SOLOMON HAD AN ATTITUDE IN HIS HEART THAT ALLOWED HIM TO MAKE A POLITICAL ALLIANCE WITH EGYPT AND MARRY AN UNBELIEVING WIFE (**1 KINGS 3:1**).**
*
HIS MARRIAGE TO PHARAOH'S DAUGHTER WAS OBVIOUSLY A POLITICAL MARRIAGE,
IT WAS A MARRIAGE THAT SEALED AN ALLIANCE BETWEEN HIM AND THE PHAROAH OF EGYPT.
WITH THIS ALLIANCE BETWEEN ISRAEL AND EGYPT, SOLOMON DIDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT EGYPT ATTACKING HIM FROM THE SOUTH.
*BUT, WHAT MAY BE POLITICALLY SAVY, *
*MAY NOT BE SPIRITUALLY SMART.*
WHEN SOLOMON MARRIED PHAROAH'S DAUGHTER,
HE MARRIED AN UNBELIEVER.
HE BROUGHT AN UNBELIEVER INTO THE PALACE
AS HIS WIFE.
AS HIS QUEEN.
SHE WASN'T JUST AN UNBELIEVER,
SHE WAS A BELIEVER IN THE FALSE GODS OF EGYPT.
WHEN HE BROUGHT HER TO ISRAEL,
HE EXPOSED HIMSELF AND THE WHOLE NATION
TO HER FALSE GODS AND TO HER FALSE RELIGION.
SOLOMON SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE CAREFUL IN PROTECTING HIMSELF AND ISRAEL
FROM OUTSIDE IDOLATROUS BELIEFS.
BUT THIS CARNAL ATTITUDE WAS ALREADY THERE
IN HIS HEART.
HE WAS WILLING TO RISK HIS SOUL AND HIS NATION TO HAVE PEACE WITH EGYPT.
THIS ALL HAPPENED BEFORE HE EVER ASKED GOD FOR WISDOM.
SOLOMON STARTED OUT PRETTY WELL,
BUT THESE ATTITUDES IN HIS HEART
LED HIM AWAY FROM THE GOD OF HIS FATHERS.
OVER IN 1 KINGS 11:1 WE SEE HOW THIS ATTITUDE OF HIS HEART CONTINUED EVEN AFTER HE RECEIVED GOD'S GIFTS.
*1 KINGS 11:1-6 (NIV) \\ **11** KING SOLOMON, HOWEVER, LOVED MANY FOREIGN WOMEN BESIDES PHARAOH’S DAUGHTER—*
*MOABITES, AMMONITES, EDOMITES, SIDONIANS AND HITTITES.
*
* *
*2 **THEY WERE FROM NATIONS ABOUT WHICH THE LORD HAD TOLD THE ISRAELITES, *
*“YOU MUST NOT INTERMARRY WITH THEM, *
*BECAUSE THEY WILL SURELY TURN YOUR HEARTS AFTER THEIR GODS.” *
* *
*NEVERTHELESS, SOLOMON HELD FAST TO THEM IN LOVE.
*
* *
*3 **HE HAD SEVEN HUNDRED WIVES OF ROYAL BIRTH *
*AND THREE HUNDRED CONCUBINES, *
* *
*AND HIS WIVES LED HIM ASTRAY.
*
*4 **AS SOLOMON GREW OLD, HIS WIVES TURNED HIS HEART AFTER OTHER GODS, *
*AND HIS HEART WAS NOT FULLY DEVOTED TO THE LORD HIS GOD, AS THE HEART OF DAVID HIS FATHER HAD BEEN.
*
* *
*5 **HE FOLLOWED ASHTORETH THE GODDESS OF THE SIDONIANS, AND MOLECH THE DETESTABLE GOD OF THE AMMONITES.
*
* *
*6 **SO SOLOMON DID EVIL IN THE EYES OF THE LORD; HE DID NOT FOLLOW THE LORD COMPLETELY, AS DAVID HIS FATHER HAD DONE.
*
SOLOMON NOT ONLY CAUSED PROBLEMS FOR HIMSELF, BUT HE CAUSED THE NATION OF ISRAEL TO BE SPLIT IN TWO.
*IN 1 KINGS 11:11-12 (NIV) THE LORD SAYS: \\ **11 **SO THE LORD SAID** TO SOLOMON, “SINCE THIS IS YOUR ATTITUDE AND YOU HAVE NOT KEPT MY COVENANT *
*AND MY DECREES, WHICH I COMMANDED YOU, *
*I WILL MOST CERTAINLY TEAR THE KINGDOM AWAY FROM YOU AND GIVE IT TO ONE OF YOUR SUBORDINATES.
*
* *
*12 **NEVERTHELESS, FOR THE SAKE OF DAVID YOUR FATHER, *
